The procedure typically lasts for about one to two hours, and is often performed as a day case. Wounds from the surgery will be closed with dissolving sutures, glued, and finally taped.

For the first four weeks after the surgery, you must avoid baths. However, showering is allowed from the morning following your surgery. Some bruising and swelling are to be expected, and a compression garment should be worn for at least six weeks after surgery. Also, avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for four to six weeks. Your surgeon will give you aftercare instructions and ask you to go back for regular check-ups.

A liposuction is usually done under local or general anaesthetic and can involve a one night stay in hospital. Look for a specialist clinic that has highly skilled surgeons in order to ensure a safe and effective procedure.
