Must-See Landmarks in Geneva
If you ever find yourself visiting Geneva, then you will no doubt be impressed by how efficient the public transport is. There is a Geneva bus station at virtually every important point of the city, making it very easy to get where you need to go.You should certainly make time in your busy schedule to take a peek at these local attractions - all conveniently located near one of the many Geneva bus station lines in the city.Jet d’Eau – one of the most iconic landmarks in the city is the awe-inspiring Jet d’Eau. This is much like the water fountains you’d find in the average European plaza, except it shoots a massive column of water 140 metres up into air. It started out as a pressure release mechanism for a hydro power plant, but ended up being so beloved that the locals placed a powerful water pump beneath it to keep the fountain churning. It’s open from 10 AM to 11 PM, and is best viewed at night when it is illuminated by dazzling lights along the Lac Leman waterfront.International Museum of the Reformation – the Reformation was a significant event in Christianity; ultimately leading to the birth of Protestantism and the Jesuit orders. Artefacts, scriptures, works of art, audio-visual aids and interactive media covering the history of the Reformation can be found within the confines of the museum. This is definitely a must-see for anyone hungry to learn more about Christian history.Old Town – the Vieille Ville is full of history - from the birth house of the famous Rousseau to the curious site of cannons located in a square opposite city hall. The Old Town simply oozes with the city's rich past, making it a great location to explore on foot if you have the time. There are also a lot of antique shops in the area, which make it even better for tourists to visit. A word of warning – there are some pretty steep pathways leading up to the Old Town.Palais des Nations – located at Avenue de la Paix near Geneva bus station 8, this structure was originally designed to facilitate the League of Nations – the forerunner of the modern-day United Nations. It now hosts an impressive collection of art and books while maintaining beautifully landscaped grounds in the process. It is well worth a visit, but do remember to bring your passport since you’ll need it to gain entry into the grounds.
