With Qantas announcing the launch of the first ever non-stop London to Perth service from 2018, Perth has jumped to the front of everyone’s minds when considering a holiday to Australia. We’ve put together a handy A-Z guide to help you navigate through the city’s highlights.

A is for Ancient Landscapes

Perth, the capital of Western Australia, offers a gateway to the Australian Outback, Australia’s vast desert, and an ancient natural landscape, home to one of the oldest surviving cultures on earth. In the Outback you can explore Australia’s indigenous tribe, Aboriginal Australians, and marvel at spectacular rock formations.

B is for Beaches and BBQs

Perth, sitting at the edge of Australia’s west coast, is surrounded by breathtaking coastline. In the city itself there are 19 different beaches to choose from, and across Western Australia there are more beaches than any other state in Australia. Perth’s beaches provide the perfect BBQ spot, as do its many parks and state forests. One of our favourite BBQ spots is John Forrest National Park, just 30 minutes from the city, which has BBQ and picnic facilities in the heart of the forest.

P is for Parks

Perth has one of the biggest inner city parks in the world in its central Kings Park and Botanical Garden, which is also one of the most popular tourist sites in the whole of Western Australia. Here you can enjoy incredibly scenic walkways, natural bushland and panoramic views of the city skyline and the central Swan River.

S is for Sunlight & Surfing

Perth enjoys over 3000 hours of sunshine a year, providing the perfect condition to enjoy its incredible waterside location, and world-famous surfing beaches. Perth and the surrounding Margaret River region are known internationally as one of the best ‘big wave’ locations on the planet.

T is for Trains

From Perth you can take one of the most spectacular train journeys in the world, on board the legendary Ghan, that travels from Perth, through the Northern Territory, and into the heart of Australia’s Outback. The Ghan is a fantastic way to see Australia’s ancient rock formations and desert landscapes up close. From the Ghan you can take desert inspired side trips across on camel back.

W is for Wine & Whales

Surrounding Perth is the famous wine region of Margaret River, just a few hours drive from the city. The Margaret River region provides some of Australia’s top quality wines, and boasts beautiful vineyards that hug dramatic coastlines, which offer some of the best spots in the world to see migrating whales. The Margaret River region is also one of the only places left in the world where you can swim amongst gentle whale sharks.
