Drink Bottled Spring Water and Avoid a Sore Throat

Author: Alan Scott

We all need to drink adequate amounts of water every day to avoid the effects of dehydration. Experts differ a little in their advice as not everyone has the same water requirements. An athlete that trains outside during the hotter seasons will obviously need to drink more than someone sat on a couch at home. That being said, a good rule of thumb is to consume around 2 litres of water every day. One of the least understood aspects of dehydration for many people is having a sore throat. Let’s take a closer look at why this occurs and some methods for dealing with the problem.

Why Does Dehydration Cause a Sore Throat?

When the body is lacking adequate hydration, there isn’t enough mucus and saliva to keep your throat moist. This can result in your throat feeling dry, tight and sore when you swallow. Another factor to consider is that dehydration causes inflammation and swelling throughout the body. This exacerbates the sore throat and rehydration is required to return everything to normal.

How Can I Deal With My Sore Throat?

Rehydration is required, but drinking may be painful if your throat is very sore. A warm tea or a drink made with honey can relieve some of the pain and make swallowing easier. Adding lemon to your water will help with your hydration efforts and add some much needed vitamin C. You will still need to eat, but avoid spicy foods and stick with hydrating foods, such as: soups and fruit with a high water content. If you follow these steps, your throat will start to feel better soon, but you need to drink water regularly to avoid a recurrence.

Some Common Early Indicators of Dehydration

We can often detect the early onset of dehydration early and head off the development of a sore throat or other conditions. If you actually feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated and need to drink some spring water. Drinking smaller quantities of water throughout the day is more desirable and actually drinking too much water at once can be bad for your health. Often, if you feel hungry it could be the case that you are actually dehydrated instead. An easy way to find out, is to drink a glass of water and see if you feel hungry an hour later.
