Treat Yourself to the Unique in Los Angeles

Author: Daniel Cooper

Just as there is a huge difference in the real life and reel life, similarly, watching a destination on TV and being there in person are poles apart. Let's take you out to Los Angeles. It's not always the glitter and glamour that you see on screen or on the TV.

No doubt, Los Angeles can sometimes be beautiful, confounding and diverse. If you have a chance to visit LA for the first time, it's easy to get hooked at the sights and sounds. So, what weaves the City of Angels into a unique destination? Here are a few things you need to know.

LA is heartless

Now, isn't that rude? Well, not at all. The fact is - LA has no centre. In most world-famous cities, as you disembark your flight, the cab takes you to the heart of the city. Believe it or not, the train does not exist in LA (except the Metro). You cannot just wander out in LA; it is too vast. You can stroll downtown LA, a sizzling area for bars, museums, restaurants and crowd.

LA is the world in itself

What is the real LA? The city is divided into The Basin and The Valley. These two cities have mini-cities in them. The Basin is filled with gaudy suburbs and beachfront districts, whereas the Eastside sizzles with indigenous enclaves. Walk into any famous neighbourhood such as West Hollywood, Beverly Hills or even Santa Monica, it's a totally different world.

Get a Car

Los Angeles is huge. The expansive freeways can take you to your destination in the twinkling of the eye. There are heavenly spots in LA that can only be enjoyed in a car. The Pacific Coast, Mulholland Drive and the Angeles Crest Highway are a few to name.

The popular can be a letdown

An attractive destination in Los Angeles can be a real let down. On the other hand, some of LA's underrated spots can be jaw-dropping. We are not referring Venice Boardwalk, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Rodeo Drive or even Getty Centre.

Try exploring places that you've never heard or seen before. Enjoy a lunch at the Grand Central Market, soak up sunset at the Zuma, make your evening romantic at the Griffith Observatory or stroll at El Matador State Beach.

There's nothing like Los Angeles

In LA, brunch is a grave activity and hiking is a favourite pastime. Bar Hopping might not be a daily activity that you would see people doing. Restaurants and iconic attractions are crammed with visitors. Advance booking needs to be done in some famous restaurants.

Surfers enjoy the morning glaze of the sun, skiers forget their nap in the afternoons and families flock towards Disneyland. Los Angeles is an enchanting place once you catch its zest. There are rewarding things as well as contradictions, but, worth it!
