Wanna do a 5k run? Here's the diet to keep you on track!
It is quite possible that you must have wished of replacing a James Bond or a Forrest Gump in their famous running scenes on screen. Aren’t Usain Bolt and MS Dhoni such inspirations that you would crave for bodies and stamina like theirs? You must sometimes feel that you don’t have proper weight or flexibility or the desire to run for long. Well, there is a way to get that ultimate runner’s high. The first step for that is to run 5 km or 3.1 miles. Running is an activity that can be done anywhere, such as in a gym in Borivali West and on your terms. 5 km is an ideal distance for practice as well as it is a good workout.
To master it, you’ll be surprised to know that before practicing, discipline in diet matters. The number of calories you take and the type of food you consume, especially before the run can help you maintain your stamina by a long margin. It makes your journey fun.
It is a given that there is no ideal diet as such as each person’s body varies. But there is a recommendation for you, a method which has worked in the past for many athletes to help you achieve your running and as a result, fitness goals. So here it goes –
a) Protein
Protein is the powerhouse element of a proper diet. A sufficient amount of it is needed, because it is the ultimate source of energy. Body strength is an essential part of running so that you don’t give up your run with ease. As surprising as it may sound, but protein from plants tend to give you more energy and stamina than protein from animals, even if they are healthy. A successful 5k run breeds a successful 10k run and so on. So a protein shake endorsed by gyms and fitness centres isn’t the way to go. A combination of dals, nuts, beans, soya and green vegetables such as spinach and broccoli suffices.
b) Fruits and vegetables
The ultimate foods of Nature, fruits and vegetables if had in a raw way, gives you an advantage over others in running. Develop your tastes now! Fruits such as strawberries, oranges and bananas have several carbohydrates, antioxidants and vitamins such as Vitamin C which help reduce muscle damage to a huge extent and maintain your shape. Smoothies with a mix of fruits and veggies can boost you with more nutrients.
c) Water
Water is such an essential part of diet, that you would want to know that 70% of our body is made up of that and not solids. So you can master how it functions and make it run on your tunes by having few glasses of water before the start of a run. Otherwise, even healthy food is a waste.
Doing running in the open air is a fantastic exercise and hobby. If you find it boring or can’t, there’s always a gym in Tardeo to book online and join, should you be living in South Bombay.
