Cleaning and Sanitizing Your RV Interior
Cleaning and maintaining the interior of your recreational vehicle is important for your overall comfort and health.
Moreover, keeping it clean will also allow you to maintain its value over the years.
RV travel does come with many benefits and of course, loads of fun. But it can also get dirty. Unless you take proactive measures towards cleaning your RV, you will end up living in an unsafe, smelly and possibly, muddy environment.
With a few cleaning products and dust cloths, you can dramatically improve indoor air quality and prevent the chances of mold growth.
Dusting and Vacuum CleaningThe easiest way to rid your RV interior of all dust is by using a small handheld vacuum. It will allow you to reach all areas of the RV.
Vacuum clean all areas including floors, windows, blinds, dashboards, and the insides of cabinets. Once you are done, use an ammonia cleaning solution to wipe down all countertops.
Windows and MirrorsIf the windows are not covered with a solar film, you can clean them with any cleaning solution. If they are covered, avoid using harsh cleaning agents. Clean both sides of the windows and clean all mirrors just like you would at home.
To clean curtains, shades or blinds use the following tips:
- If roll up shades are stained clean them with a damp cloth.
- Dust off all dirt from roll up shades with a dry cloth.
- Aluminum roll up shades only need casual dusting.
- Consider professional cleaning for curtains.
While the RV floor might be hard to keep clean, it is also the most important. Here are a few quick tips that will help:
- Use an ammonia cleaner to wipe off ceramic tiles or vinyl flooring.
- If you haven’t cleaned carpets in a while, consider having them professionally cleaned.
- Keep rubber mats at all entry/exit points.
- Consider implementing a no-shoes policy within the RV.
- Sweep the floors before and after every trip.
The freshwater and sewage water holding tanks need to be kept clean at all times. While you might not clean the freshwater tank as often, the sewage tank should be drained and thoroughly cleaned using a strong commercial cleaning solution. Not doing so may cause it to emit fumes and lead to serious health risks.
