Root Canal Treatment In Mumbai - Ideal Destination

Author: Ashu Agarwa

In this article, the author will examine diagnostic techniques in the form of very important fundamental questions that should be asked, as well as the clinical criteria to be considered, before any potential root canal treatment case.

QUESTION 1: What is the origin of pain?

While a patient may have buccal pain and pointing to the teeth, the clinician must determine if the pain is from endodontic origin. Perhaps the pain is due to non-endodontic sources such as dental hypersensitivity, occlusal trauma such as tightening or grinding, or is related to the sinuses. So even if the patient is pointing to his teeth, the clinician should always keep an open mind when diagnosing symptoms. It cannot be assumed that it is always endo-linked.

Criteria to Consider

Forgiving the obvious statement, but endo should only be done if the clinician is certain that the pain is of endodontic origin. Such pain should meet the basic criteria of pain from the pulp or apical origin. This, at least in part, includes symptoms such as prolonged hot or cold pain, no response to pulp tests (except) and cases of apical pathology.

One of the simplest but most important techniques to be used to diagnose pulpiness is a cold test with Endo-Ice. To determine common signs of neuromuscular or para-functional pain, the following should be performed and evaluated:

QUESTION 2: Do Teeth Deserve to Save?

While the endodontic procedure may be non-compliant, as part of the routine diagnostic procedure, always ask if the tooth is worth saving!

Specifically, could the tooth be predictably restored? Obviously there is no need to perform a root canal on a non-retractable tooth or perhaps a wisdom tooth that serves no functional or repairing purpose with respect to the occlusion. Is there sufficient dental structure to restore satisfactorily? Is the tooth in question significantly fractured? What is the root canal cost, including post-endo restorations that the patient can afford?

Criteria for selecting root canal treatment

  1. Root canal procedure is by no means a simple procedure: carefully approach the choice of an experienced specialist.
  2. It is better if the treatment of canals will be handled by a highly specialized dentist-endodontist. Even if this treatment is more expensive, it will save your time and will have a better chance of success.
  3. One of the criteria for the quality of the treatment, which is easy to evaluate by X-ray: the canal should be sealed to the apex of the tooth root (apex).
  4. Stereo microscope in endodontic treatment is indispensable. Root canals have a diameter of a fraction of a millimeter; all work inside the tooth is done at the micro level and certainly cannot be performed "blindly". That is why in some countries (USA), according to the law, the doctor has no right to treat the root canals without using a microscope.
  5. The inconsistent treatment of the root canal leads to the appearance of a granuloma - an inflammatory focus in the bone surrounding the tip of the root. The presence of a granuloma is easily recognized on an X-ray.
