A Quick Guide to Help You Get the Most Out of a Visit to London

Are you planning on a visit to London as a tourist? If you are, you will want to make the most of your time here. There is so much to see and do that it’s impossible to see the city over the course of a weekend – even over the course of a year, some might even argue that you can spend a lifetime in the city and still not see everything it has to offer.

Still, if a weekend is all you have, a weekend is all it will take to see the best highlights in the city. Today, we are going to provide you with a brief guide to help you get the most out of your trip to London.

Buy a "Visitors Oyster Card" from Transport for London (TFL)

Oyster Cards are pay-as-you-go travel cards. You top them up when you need them and then you simply swipe them as you're getting on the bus, tube, or train.

They will save you a lot of time travelling around the city. The alternative is to either buy individual tickets for each journey – this means waiting in queues and working out fares – or buying day travel tickets – these are slightly better, but it still means that you will have to wait in queues each day.

The Oyster Card will simplify your travel and it will mean that you free up some time that would otherwise have been spent in queues faffing around with fares and tickets.

Stay in a Hotel or B&B in the Middle of Town

Too many people fail to realise that London hotels and B&Bs are very reasonably priced. They assume that, as with house prices, the cost will be extortionate. This couldn’t be further from the truth. For example, you can find a bed and breakfast near Victoria Station London for as little as £40-per night. These are nice hotels and B&Bs too.

Staying somewhere close to the centre of town, e.g. near Victoria Station, will give you plenty of time to see the sights. You will be within a walk of many of London’s biggest tourist attractions, including Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, the Natural History Museum, The London Eye, Big Ben, Harrods, etc.

The only issue you may have with a hotel or bed and breakfast near Victoria Station London is finding availability – especially near to Christmas. Make sure that you book well in advance (at least 3 weeks) in order to avoid disappointment.

Check Busy Times on Websites

certain tourist attractions have specific times when they’re especially busy. For example, The Tower of London tends to be busy between 1pm and 3pm on any given day. To save time, but still see the site, choose an earlier visit. For example, 9am is considered a quiet time at the tower.

This gives you longer to appreciate the sights, and you get to do it without the throngs of tourists inevitably pushing and jostling around.
