IPL AUCTION 2018: Hopes and Expectations
The most important auction of the year is fast approaching and cricket fans all over the world will wait to find out the fate of their favourite players and which colors they will wear when the biggest cricketing extravaganza kicks off with the start of the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League.
As always before the players show off their skills on the pitch, an intense battle pursues off the pitch with team owners flexing their financial muscle by outwitting and out pricing their competitors for the best players and the best balance in their respective clubs.
Indian Premier League recently compiled a list of 1122 players, which includes 281 capped players and 838 uncapped players, including 778 Indians and three players from the Associate nations. A final auction pool would be prepared by the end of next week once the franchises submit their wishlists to the IPL Cricekt.
The biggest draw of the auction would definitely be controversial English all-rounder Ben Stokes and some prime picks and trump cards that might decide the fate of any franchise. Among those names are Mitchell Starc, Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh, R Ashwin, Ajinkya Rahane, Brendon McCullum, Rashid Khan, Chris Gayle and Eoin Morgan.
Like last season, ben Stokes will again command a mammoth auction price when Rising Pune Supergiants coughed up and eye-watering sum of 14.5 crore! The amount proved to be worth every penny as not only did Stokes guide Pune to the final which they eventually lost but was also declared the Man of the Tournament for that tournament.
Its no surprise that most of the entries of players came from the land of the Big Bash League with as many as 58 Australian cricketers ready to be a part of this year’s instalment.
But the Aussie in most demand has to Mitchell Starc. The speedster, fresh from his Ashes success has been the go to man for crisis situations for Australia and has shown his worth with the white new ball time and time again.
