Interior designing is all about the science of playing with the space of a living room, office or a building making meaningful changes to them so that their creative appeal should reach to an ultimate desired level. Interior design play a big role in our everyday lives and given high attention all over the world nowadays. This exciting and dynamic industry is bringing together special design required to living, work and leisure environments. Interior design skill are in high demands and mastering these skills will lead to promising career. It is becoming an increasingly great career for creative individuals who have an instinctive aptitude for Interior and architecture design.

How to apply

Any person can get enrolled in a good interior designing institute by following their admission process. After clearing the exam, in general a comprehensive interview and portfolio assessment has to be done. To secure admission in reputed institutes, one must appear for relevant entrance examinations. Most institutes conduct their own exams. Some of the well-known relevant entrance tests include- NATA, CEED, NID, CEPT entrance test, state-wise entrance tests etc. Mostly institutes follow ‘merit based admission’ process. Board examination marks and relevant entrance test marks are usually taken in consideration when it comes to merit based admission. Some institutes also follow direct admission process.

BA Interior Design- Duration is 3 years

Bachelor of Architecture Interior Design- Duration is 5 years

Bachelor of Interior Design- Duration is 5 years (CEPT course)

BA Interior Architecture and Design- Duration is 3 years

Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) Interior Design- Duration is 4 years

B.Sc. Interior Design- Duration is 3 years

Eligibility criteria: The minimum qualification required for opting a interior designing course is that the candidate should have passes 10+2 (any stream- Science, Commerce or Arts) from a recognized board is the minimum qualification required. Minimum marks criteria may exist in case of many institutes. Usually it is around 45-50% aggregate marks.

Diploma in Interior Design and Architecture

Duration: Depending upon the institute and the nature of the program, course duration could be between 1-2 years.

Eligibility criteria: It is same as the bachelor’s course.

Apart from bachelors and diploma courses there also exists many certificate courses for the candidate who cannot give proper time which is required to complete a bachelor’s or diploma course but want to pursue interior designing as a hobby or profession. Although these courses are not as valuable when compared to degree or diploma courses but the time duration is comparatively very short.

Duration: Course duration could be anywhere between 6 months to 1 year.

Eligibility criteria: 10+2 passed (any stream- Science, Commerce or Arts) from a recognized board. Some institutes also accept 10th passed students.

In diploma courses, the basics of interior designing are taught.The duration of which can range up to 9 months to even 2 years. These courses are for the people who just wish to gain basic knowledge of the subject know and understand the subject from a broader point of view.

ADVANCE DIPLOMA courses are an extended version or an upgraded version of diploma courses and provides a bit deeper knowledge than regular diploma courses.

For people who wish to gain full knowledge of the subject and want to understand it more deeply can opt for full time degree courses like bachelor of science in interior designing or bachelor’s or art in interior designing.

It covers almost all aspects of interior design-from design basics to construction basics required for Interior designing.

Eligible students can choose from a variety of colleges available in Delhi for either a full time bachelor’s degree or diploma curses or for a part time certificate courses. Some colleges like LISAA School of design even offers part time certificate courses for the students who has difficulty perusing a full time course.
