Get a Reliable Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) for Your Electrical Fitting

Author: James Livingstone

An EICR or Electrical Installation Condition Report is a detailed check of all your electrical components. Whether you own a residential home or a commercial building, you can have a competent electrician conduct an EICR to ensure the electrical safety of your structure. The EICR report allows you to see an overall view of all your electrical wiring and circuits. Equipment and other appliances are checked, any overloading is determined, grounds and electrical bonds are verified, and fire hazards are listed. Any defective work is analysed, and all electrical fittings are tested.

What are electrical fittings?

These are sections of an electric line that connect conduits together. They are essential in ensuring the safety and smooth supply of power to appliances and other equipment.

Box connectors

Box connectors are small components that connect an electrical conduit to a junction box. They can either be threaded or screwed based on the design of the junction box. Bolts are used together with rings that are inside the box to lock them in place. Compression rings aid in fitting the other end of the connector to the conduit. Box connectors can be made of die-cast zinc, cast iron or aluminium.

Couplings

If the electrical connection is longer, couplings are used. Couplings join two conduits together. They are available in different sizes. Some couplings, like the rigid variant, are threaded from inside for easier linking.

Bushings

To protect the wires from being damaged, especially during an installation, bushings are used. One side is positioned inside the box opening while the other is threaded to the conduit. Locknuts are used to secure them in place.

Electrical fitting check-up

Fittings are inspected as part of a comprehensive assessment of your electrical circuit. If you are issued a C1, it means that there are exposed parts, open gaps, damaged accessories, or conductive parts. Broken fittings need to be addressed immediately to avoid accidents and injuries.

A comprehensive examination of your electrical setup must be done to ensure the safety of your property and the people in it. Electrical fittings may seem like small components, but if a damaged unit is not replaced readily, it can cause severe damage.
