Spiritual worship in India – Kamakhya Devi

India is a land of diversities and many Religious practices in India can be seen and witnessed here from ancient times. One such popular and spiritual worship in India is Lord kamakhya Devi, kamakhya devi is the most worshiped deity in the North- eastern part of India. Kamakhya devi as the name suggests is believed to be the Hindu tantric goddess of desire. She is the primary deity in the region of Assam, also worshipped as kubjika, kali and maha Tripura sundari in that region. Kamakhya devi is said to have resided in the Kamakhya temple, Assam. One of the primary shakti peethas of India which was built in the 16th century where people in large scale from all parts of the world come to worship lord kamakhya. According to ved puranas, it is said that when Raja daksha was unhappy with his daughter Sati`s choice of husband and prepared a grand yajna for that, in order to insult lord shiva he called all the deities but he did not invite lord shiva for that. Seeing this sati jumped into the holy yajna and burnt herself, on learning about this lord shiva grew angry and started his tandava with sati`s body on his shoulder, in order to stop the world from destruction, Vishnu threw his chakra to devastate sati`s body into pieces. These pieces of her body fell into different places, which were later built into holy pilgrimage sites and are known as shakti peethas. There are a total of 51 sakthi peethas in India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan. Devi kamakhya temple is one of them, it is said that the womb of sati fall here on earth.

The temple is belived to be the centre of cosmic and tantric powers, during an annual festival of ambubachi mela a festival which marks the mentural period of the goddess durga and manasa puja it attracts thousand of tantric sadhus and aghoris to perform tantra sadhna. The temple performs puja and spiritual practices to recover tantra or black magic. Unlike other sakthi peethas it also resembles the worship of nirakar goddess. The temple has many tales associated to it, many have witnessed magical powers and healing. Visitors and worshipers in the region recall this place as the most holy one. Just 8 kms away from guwahati, the state capital of Assam this a major devotional place in the Nilachal hills. One devote must surely visit Kamakhya temple and other shakti peethas in his lifetime.
