House of molteni introduction

Author: David John

Luxury Italian furniture group Molteni&C presents its first digital project: #HouseOfMolteni. Twelve months for twelve stories: the protagonists are international trendsetters and influencers who have discerning taste in modern contemporary furniture and design and who have been carefully selected to open their homes and chat about their lifestyles.

The campaign consists of a series of video interviews, an interview of 10 questions and artistic photographs that will be presented on P5’s website and on social media channels. The articulate and creatively executed initiative highlights how the label’s Italian designer furniture blends in with different personalities and home concepts emphasizing its timelessness in various cultures or the allure of a statement piece in conservative settings.

Two central themes emerge within the project. One, the consensus among different design mavens that fashion, art, and furniture are archetypically related; a testament to the success of cross-collaborations between the sub-industries. Two, a home housing art memorabilia, design collectibles and iconic masterpieces becomes a creative sanctuary for ideas and emotions.

Some Key Products on feature

D.153.1

Designed in 1953, the D.153.1 armchair is part of the furniture of Gio Ponti’s private house in via Dezza in Milan. This re-edition is produced by Italian designer furniture Molteni&C based on the original drawings from the ponti archives.

Brass structure, cover in bicolor white-blue leather or "Punteggiato" fabric, designed by Ponti for Rubelli in 1934. The fabric reinterprets the age-old technique of velvet-weaving, bringing it up to date with contemporary patterns, such as close sequences of staggered disks with various gradations of colour. Exhibited at the Salone del Mobile 2012, the D.153.1 chair enriches the Gio Ponti furnishing Collection and exemplifies Italian luxury furniture.

D.154.2

The armchair was designed for one of the projects closest to Gio Ponti’s heart, the villa of the Planchart collectors in Caracas (1953-57). It is part of the Gio Ponti Collection, which was curated by Molteni&C under the artistic direction of Studio Cerri & Associati.

The architecture reflected the ideas he had gathered during his trips to Latin America in 1952-53. Today the armchair, which is like a cosy shell, has a rigid polyurethane frame, a soft polyurethane counter-frame and a cushion, and is upholstered using the Molteni&C textile range. In 2016 this modern contemporary furniture "love chair" won the prestigious Wallpaper Design Awards and became a Molteni&C icon.
