All About The Lasik Eye Surgery Procedure
Lasik eye surgery is performed by reshaping the cornea in human eye. The complete Lasik eye surgery procedure is divided into three sections. Here are they –
Preoperative procedures
On the first place, the people wearing the soft contact lenses are given a tentative date for the surgery and they are instructed to not to wear them about 1 to 3 weeks before the surgery. If the patient is wearing hard contact lenses he/she must stop wearing them at least six weeks before the surgery. Actually the contact lenses are considered as a hurdle for the Lasik surgery. Though some modern contact lens manufacturers claim that their products are not sensitive to the Lasik surgery, ophthalmologists advise the patients not over-wear them.
Pre-operative examinations
In some countries, patients didn’t attain a minimum age are not eligible to undergo this surgery. If doctors have given permission to undergo one such surgery, the corneas of the patient is carefully observed and examined. The most important among all pre-operative examinations is to create the topographic map of eye’s cornea. Through these, it is determined how the cornea will be reshaped.
Operative procedures
The patient needs to go through the following operative procedures during the Lasik surgery –
- On the first place the operation starts with a flap creation. During this procedure, a little bit bleeding can be seen, which is medically known as the subconjunctival hemorrhage. This kind of bleeding doesn’t have any side effect.
- After that, the surgeons perform the most important and complicated procedure called Laser Re-modeling. Here, the doctors use an Excimer Laser of 193 nm to remodel corneal stroma.
- Third and final operative procedure is known as the Flap Reposition. It should be noted that flip is positioned perfectly through the natural adhesion procedure and this procedure takes time till the complete healing.
Postoperative Care
This stage of Lasik surgery procedure depends on the patient completely. In this stage, the doctors will provide advices to the patients only. But it is the duty of the patients to follow them properly to get healed perfectly and as soon as possible. Doctors give the patients a course of anti-inflammatory eye drops and antibiotics during the healing period. Moreover patients are advised to take proper rest and to weak dark eye glasses. Rubbing the eyes is a strict no-no during this time. Remember that the eyes are vulnerable to bright lights during this period.
