His paternal ancestors were Alakozai Pashtuns20.21.22.23. from present-day Afghanistan24. who immigrated to Indore, Madhya Pradesh in the mid 1800s. His grandfather Abdul Rashid Khan was a Deputy Inspector General of the Indore state who was awarded Diler Jung award of the Holkar times.25. Khan's mother is a Maharashtrian,26. whose father Baldev Singh Charak, a Dogra Rajput,27. comes from Jammu-Kashmir28. and whose mother comes from Maharashtra.24.29.
