Introduction

A student has to deal with a lot of questions which tend to puzzle them sometimes. These maybe related to daily routine and aspects such as pocket money (financial constraints), family problems, career, studies, friends and many other such things. Put all together they cause stress which means an imbalance of emotions which tend to change the anatomy is such a way that the person feels very low at times. Above all academically if you do not do well then it is an added burden. Exams, submission dates for coursework, not understanding a subject or a topic, all this may result in stress. And the extra anxiety/stress is caused by parent pressure, especially when they tend to compare their own children with that of their friend’s. Further in this paper we will see how to reduce these stresses and try to balance work and play at the same time.

Be a part of club or an interest group

Joining a club or a group of people sharing similar interests will help a great deal in reducing your stress levels. Some schools and universities organize such clubs and groups. This can be inquired in the admin office. Universities and schools do realize the importance of this and help students in the same. Group counseling is also advisable. These groups and clubs help in enhancing memory power by certain exercises for students who tend to forget or are unable to focus. This is another stress relieving activity.

Join a study group

Only studying and being a bookworm does not help. There are times when you feel that after studying so much why you haven’t fared well in your exams. The reason may be that you have put in the right amount of efforts but have not read and studied efficiently. In order to do so the best thing is to join a study group. There are two major advantages of joining a study group. One is it will help you do things on time which will reduce stress and second, you will end up doing your work and socializing at the same time. Interaction among the friends and study group will help you understand the subject better will also know what problems others are facing which will relax tension.

Get help from a tutor

Tutoring is another good option. It is not necessary that the tutor has to be your teacher as it may not be possible for him/her to spare you that much of time, it can be your peer who is brilliant and has no problem in understanding the study material. There can be a barter system. You can help him/her in the subjects that they are struggling and you can get help in the subjects that are difficult for you to understand. This will give you a chance to be with your friend and also get help in studies which will be more fun. Apart from this you can use your professor as a resource to help study well. He /she can give you pointers as to what is important and needs to be focused. And may be due to lack of time, if you are lucky the professor might give you important pointers from the exam point of view. This will help a lot to reduce stress as you have all specifics of what to study and what to leave out. Again it depends how good repo you can build with him or her.

Make use of the library

The most useful resource is the library. Library is a part of most of the schools and universities. Proper research on the subject may help you to understand it better. It is also possible that other referable texts in the books are easier to understand and follow. Library is also a place where you meet up with your peer or fellow students who maybe working on the similar subject and facing same problems as you are. Working together may help in resolving the confusion more quickly and help reduce your stress levels.

Strike a balance between studies & non-academic pursuits.

Everybody goes to school to graduate and make a better living in life. The focus on this goal can easily be distracted if you don’t fare well in exams. You have to set priority as in to what is more important and abide by those priorities. Other engagements, those are non-academic and co-curricular activities need to be cut down. If you give the importance to your study and focus correctly then a balance can definitely be maintained between both. This will again help you relax.

Conclusion

Stress is a part and parcel of life. At young age its academic stress, after graduation it is job stress, later it is marriage stress, then stress from children and lastly old age stress. It is very difficult to completely irradiate stress from our lives but certainly it is possible to reduce it so that we can lead a distressful life. Above we have just considered and discussed stress from the academic point of view.
