Mini Dental Implants to Secure Dentures

Author: James W Collins

Dentures restore the healthy function and appearance of a smile after tooth loss. These dental restorations are ideal for replacing a few or all missing teeth. However, dentures do not resolve the problem of bone deterioration, which is a consequence of losing natural teeth. Losing the teeth also results to the loss of tooth roots, which stimulate the jawbone into maintaining its healthy condition. Without this stimulation, the jawbone deteriorates and becomes thinner in time.

Jawbone deterioration contributes to loose denture problems, especially when the dentures are already being used for a few years. Dentures that once fitted tightly over the gums and jaw will become loose as the years pass by, as the jawbone underneath continuously deteriorates and becomes thinner without the stimulation from lost tooth roots.

Securing Loose Dentures with Mini Implants

Mini dental implants are used to secure the dentures in place to stop the problems caused by loose dentures. These implants are smaller in diameter compared to traditional dental implants, and can be placed into the jawbone using a minimally-invasive procedure. Without the need for more complicated implant placement procedures, the recovery period after placing mini implants is much shorter (compared to traditional implants placement). This minimally-invasive procedure also enables the mini implants to be used immediately after loading – there is no need to wait for a long time just to enjoy the benefits of mini implants to secure loose dentures.

Loose dentures are held firmly in place with the help of mini dental implants. The implants are embedded into the jawbone to offer a secure base to which the dentures can be attached to, preventing the dental restorations from their uncontrollable movements. Dentures which once moved around inside the mouth will be securely held in place, preventing the discomfort caused by dentures that rub painfully against the tender mouth tissue, gums, and the tongue.

The embarrassment that comes with loose dentures can be put to an end with mini dental implants. As the dentures are secured in place with the smaller implants, denture wearers will enjoy increased confidence in smiling, speaking, and mingling with other people once more – without worrying about a potential embarrassing episode with loose dentures accidentally falling off. Dentures that once moved around inside the mouth will be kept firmly in place and will be stopped from accidental movements. Eating and chewing on favourite food items will also be enjoyed even more when dentures are secured with mini implants.
