Granite is composed of Quartz, feldspars and minerals like biotite, iron oxides. But when we look from commercial point of which Granite refers to all those crystalline rocks who have pleasant colors and have a great strength of bearing the process of quarrying, polishing and cutting.

Granite is very resistant to wear and tear. It can bear all the weather conditions and has a long lasting life. Since it is more resistant to weather conditions, granite is most often bought to homes. India is one of the largest producer of granite.

Indian Granite industry has a vital role in Indian economy. Granite is mainly found in South India and also in Rajasthan. South Indian States like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are the major Granite Producing States.

Granite is mainly used for decorative purposed, flooring and mainly in countertops. The use in domestic is less as compared to export. It is largely exported. Out of 310 varieties of Granite 200 are produced by India.

Uses of Indian Granite

20MM thickness granite are used for florring, 12mm are used for wall cladding and granite tiles are of thickness of 10mm. It is used to support large structures like palaces and temples. It is used in making outer walls since it very hard. It has a very ability to take polish and due to its great hardness its aesthetic value increases.

Granite is also used in benches, garden furniture, for fountains and many other decorative purposes. When granite is cut to size in small blocks it is used as road sidings, kerbstone and cobblestone. Absolute Black Granite is used mainly for kitchen countertops.

Raw Granites are mainly used for structural purpose. Processed granite are used for construction and building. IT is also used in some engineering instruments and meterological instruments because of its wear to resistant and superior quality.
