Author: Betty White

So, you just moved and you’re ready to taste the life in Florida. After you settle down, you may realize that can be harder than you think. After all, you are in a totally new place, and you need to make new acquaintances and start a new job. When all relocation excitement wears off, you may find yourself longing for your previous home and the people that you leave behind. While it is totally understandable feeling after relocation, it can be a path to a dangerous road. Post-relocation depression can creep up easily and ruin the prospect of your new life. In order not to let that happen, you need to embrace this transition and start enjoying your relocation.

Face your emotions

Your family and friends are back home. Everything that you know is there. You may fell desperately alone and frightened by all the obstacles that your new city can have in store for you. In order to fight that feeling, constantly remember yourself about the positive effects that your relocation is bringing. Did you move because of the better job offer? Because you have always dreamed to live nearby the beach? Or maybe because you were looking for a fresh start and the life in Florida has checked all of your boxes?

Focus on the main reasons for your relocation. They have to be the bright one since you wouldn’t be taking this huge step otherwise. Embrace your feelings – don’t brush them off. Embrace the sadness that you are feeling. Feel that homesick. Cry if it makes you feel better. Let it out and deal with your emotions.

Unpack your things

Keeping yourself busy is the second step of defeating the relocation blues. Unpacking is a great way to keep your mind away from the things that make you sad, and at the same time, you’ll be doing something useful. And something that you have to do either way. When you unpack your things after the move, your new home will feel more like your own. You will be feeling more comfortable in it and ready for the next stage of your life in Florida.

A place full of boxes will just deepen your homesick, but taking in charge and unpacking them will give you a sense of control.

If you determine that you have packed more things than your new place can accommodate, don’t despair. There are many affordable storage solutions in Florida that you can choose from. Just rent a storage unit and put all the things that you can fit into your apartment or house. One thing that you need to consider when looking for storage facilities in Florida is the weather. Since there are many hot and humid days, opt for the climate controlled storage unit. It may be a bit pricier, but it will still be affordable and it will keep your things safe from the elements.

Start exploring the city

It is safe to say that if you used the services of the reputable moving company like Orange Movers Miami, your relocation was stress-free. That is very important because now you’ll have the energy to start exploring all the good things that life in Florida has to offer. Florida is so much more than the sun and gorgeous beaches. There are so many interesting things to see and to live.

Of course, you can’t explore everything in a day. As you shouldn’t. The best advice will be to make a list of all the things that you want to see and experience. Kind of a "tourist bucket list".

That list should contain:

  • All the activities that you want to try and places that you want to visit, in order of importance. The things that you are most interested in, put in the first places. Then list the ones that you wish to visit, but aren’t a priority.
  • Write down the price of each item on the list. Calculate how much money each attraction will cost you. Add the ticket fee, the gas money, travel arrangements if there are any, and etc.
  • Don’t strain your budget. If the first things on your list are expensive and you can’t afford them right now, don’t let that discourage you. Do the ones that are affordable for you at this moment, and save money for the more expensive adventures.
  • The time that each attraction requires. Some attractions you can experience in one day, or maybe even in a few hours. Some may take a few days. Save the longest one for the periods that you will have more free time.
  • Start with the simplest one. If there are some things that you wish to see just a few blocks from you, start with them. It is important to get out of the house and crossing things off your "bucket list" will help you to adapt to your new life in Florida.
Go to the beach

The great thing about your life in Florida is that you’re surrounded by the most beautiful beaches. No matter where you’re living in the Sunshine State, the beach is no further than 30 miles from you. The benefit of many sunny days is that you can visit them almost any time of the year. Even if the weather isn’t suitable for swimming in the ocean, just looking at the vast water space is so soothing.

Your life in Florida won’t be complete without friends

Some people find difficult to make friendships as adults. If you think about it from the logical stand, there’s no sense in that. When we are kids, are a pull of friends consist of the ones that are around us. That’s how we have friends from kindergarten, school, university, later from work.

So there’s no reason to be friendless after your relocation. Give a chance to your neighbors or to your colleagues at a new office. Meet new people at the local bar. You can even use the meeting online applications and find someone that shares your interests.

When you’re living in Florida, opportunities for making new friendships are endless. Since this state is very diverse and has many newcomers every year, the locals are very friendly and open to them. If you step out of your comfort zone, you can meet a lot of interesting people. Some of them can become your best friends if you put your guard down and let people know the real you. The point is not to be afraid. If you were brave enough to move to a totally different state, meeting new people should be a piece of cake.
