How To Choose Your Groomsmen And How To Show Your Appreciation After The Wedding

For a job to be successfully done, getting the right people is the key. This is also the case for your wedding. You have to have the right people — from the wedding planner, caterer down to the bridesmaids and groomsmen.

For this article, we’re giving particular attention to the groomsmen. How do you choose them and how you properly show your appreciation to them (besides giving unique groomsmen gifts?).

Understanding the Role of Groomsmen

Your groomsmen make up the team that will help you in ensuring your wedding day will run as smoothly as possible. Prior to the wedding day itself, these people will be the ones to plan your bachelor party, help you get an awesome wedding gift or fit your suit, and practically be available whenever an errand needs to be done.

Come the day itself, expect these same people to help you get ready for the ceremony, deliver your gift to you would-be wife, and assist you throughout the event. They’re also there to welcome guests and usher them to your seat, and help make sure that they are enjoying the wedding.

After the wedding, they can also be tapped in cleaning up the area and carrying the wedding gifts to your transportation service.

Selecting Your A-Team

As groomsmen -- together with your best man -- are your right-hand men for the meantime, it does make sense why you should be meticulous when selecting who will make it to the final cut (and eventually receive those worth-keeping unique groomsmen gifts). Follow these simple tips:

The ones in your inner circle are your topmost priority. Do you have brothers, cousins, and best friends? Got officemates? Still in touch with your college roommates or even high school buddies? Consider these people but put a higher priority on the current part of your inner circle. You also have to be open if your bride wants to include relatives and/or friends to your roster for groomsmen.

Choose people who are currently an active part of your life. Group dynamics is very important, that’s why you have to select people who you’re most comfortable with. It’s a way to eliminate any atmosphere of awkwardness during your wedding.

Keep in mind that it’s also a numbers game. Basically, the ratio is one groomsman is to 50 guests. You can follow this logic, but keep in mind that it really depends on your and your future wife -- you're free to decide on whichever you want. But ideally, the number of bridesmaids should equal the number of groomsmen

Thanking Your Groomsmen

Your groomsmen will be there to help you before, during, and even after the wedding. And it’s more than enough reason for you to reciprocate them with an act of gratitude.

One of the most common ways is to send them heartfelt thank you notes. You can couple it with unique groomsmen gifts like personalized ceramic mugs or their favorite wines. If you want to go the extra mile -- and quite literally at that --, you can also take them out on a vacation trip.
