Keeping the Kids Entertained on a Nissan Qashqai Road Trip

Author: Andrew Rogers

The Nissan Qashqai 2019 models are fantastic family cars; they are packed with active and passive safety features. There is a lot of tech onboard to keep you happy, but any long car journey can get repetitive eventually, and this is especially true for kids. In this article, we will look at some suggestions to keep your little ones happy when you set off for a longer driving adventure.

The Scale of the Journey

A road trip is one of the very best ways to explore Australia, but this is a big country and let’s face it kids don’t really get scenery as a concept. So, it’s important to have an idea about the scale of your journey before you even set off. This planning stage is vital; you won’t need nearly as much stuff for a trip that will last a couple of days compared to a couple of weeks. Kids need plenty of variety; mobile devices are a godsend because they can pack a lot of activities into a single small unit. However, even these tablets, phones, DVD players and game consoles can get boring eventually, and other diversions may be needed.

Kids are Annoying

This isn’t hyperbolic, a survey conducted by a prominent travel website found that most people regarded kids as the second most annoying type of travelling companion. If you’re curious, the top spot went to adults that claimed to know how to read a road map and then shortly after got everyone lost. Let’s face it, kids need to be entertained; they get bored easily, and they can’t be expected to sleep the entire journey away. Let’s look at some possible real world entertainment options to use when the electronic toys have lost their appeal.

Old Fashioned Driving Games

Give each kid a piece of paper with a scoring system on it for things that they might see along the way. Some common things to look out for, include a man walking a dog, a police car, a certain license plate number, a popular truck logo, and a service station. You can add anything that you like to the list, and each item has a score. The first kid to reach a certain score wins a prize that you have in the car. Of course, have a prize for each placement, so the other kids don’t whine the rest of the way.

A Mobile Activity Centre

Get a big plastic tub and fill it with cool stuff that a kid can play with in your car to create a mobile activity centre. Some items that will work well include colouring books, coloured pencils, sticker pads, and favourite toys. Avoid putting paints or glitter in the car unless you enjoy getting it valeted every few kilometres. Finally add in some fun snack packs that are nutritious, easy to eat and not too messy.
