Job Search– 4 Success tips

Staffing agencies in Albuquerque and elsewhere around the country can provide many tips to anyone in the process of searching for a job. Recruiters and other staffing agency personnel can base these tips off of decades of experience in the hiring and job searching process. Below are some of the best tips for navigating your job search with the maximum level of success.

1. First, make sure you are searching in the right area to begin with. You want to identify your skills sets and talents and search for jobs that correspond to them. Are there any certifications or tests that would help quantify or exemplify those skills and talents? If so and you haven’t utilized those opportunities yet, you may want to do that so they can be added to your resume. Some staffing agencies will help their candidates do just that so they can help their candidates be as competitive as possible. Do your skills and talents match the industry that you want to work in? If not, there’s no time like the present to diversify your skills and talents in hopes of getting a job in the industry where you really want to be.

2. Finding the places where the jobs you want to apply for are posted can be tricky. You would think it would be easy in the internet age, but there is a lot of spam, fake job postings, and outright scams out there, so you need to be careful. Utilize job boards and website postings that you’ve researched or verified via word of mouth that they are legitimate. If you work with a staffing agency, you can basically skip this step because they will do the searching for you. Even better than that, sometimes staffing agencies are made aware of jobs that aren’t even public yet (and then the staffing agency fills the job before it is ever posted publicly), so the only way to land it would be to have a reliable recruiter.

  1. Updating your resume is key in today’s competitive job market. Gone are the days where you can have a so-so resume and be guaranteed to get hired based purely on "having a college degree" or "having a good referral." The most savvy job seekers today modify and update their resume for each job posting. There are many services out there that will help you proof read or suggest other changes to your resume if you haven’t done so in a long time or are not confident in doing it yourself. Standing out from the crowd is the highest priority and having a great resume is a key to doing that.
  2. Preparing well for your interview is another very important thing. Thanks to all of the information available via the internet, search for some common interview questions and the best answers to those questions. You will need to modify the answers to fit you and the job you are applying for.

Make sure to rehearse your answers because you will not be able to just sit in the interview and read the answers word-for-word from your notes (at least, you won’t be able to do that and expect to get hired!).
