Spotlight on the New Skoda Octavia Sportline

Author: Skoda Perth

Skoda has recently revealed the Skoda Octavia Sportline, which will be offered in the European market. This model is bringing a more athletic feel and look without bumping the performance. So, here we’ll put a spotlight on this new Skoda Octavia 2019 model.

The Looks

Like the other Sportline badged models including the Kodiaq, Karoq, and Superb, the new Skoda Octavia has picked up a number of style and trim features. This includes a subtle body kit featuring glossy black accents, full LED lighting at the front and rear and 18 inch Vega alloys.

The Sportline Octavia is based on the SE trim that is offered overseas, but it also picks up sports seats with sporty cloth upholstery, "Super Sport" leather three spoke steering wheel with DSG paddles and a black headliner. Another attractive feature is the 8.0 inch sat nav system that features Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and WiFi hotspot.

Engine Options

Both the Sportline liftback and Skoda Octavia wagon styles will be available with a choice of two engines in the European market; a 1.5 litre TSI petrol offering 110 kW of power or a 2.0 litre TDI turbo diesel, which also delivers 110 kW of power.

The petrol engine variant will be available with a manual six speed transmission as standard, but there will be an option of a seven speed DSG. The diesel will be exclusively available with a DSG.

Orders are now open in Europe, so the model is anticipated to hit the market shortly.

What About the Aussie Market?

The European market is often a good indicator of what we can expect to see in locally, here in Australia. However, it may not seem likely that we’ll see the Octavia Sportline here. According to Paul Pottinger, Skoda Australia’s communication boss, Australia is regarded as having the most RS responsive market, but there is no need for us to have an Octavia Sportline. There are now four RS245 variants available locally, negating the need for a Sportline.

While we do have the Sportline Superb and Kodiaq, this is because there is no RS variant available.

However, there is some good news. The current Skoda Octavia Sport, which is available locally, will be offered with the black body kit, seat trim, and wheels offered on the European Sportline. The Aussie models do not have the same engine, but the 1.4 turbo petrol TSI is paired with a speed DSG as a standard option does deliver the same 110 kW of power seen on the Sportline.

So, while we will not get the official Sportline moniker for the Skoda Octavia, we can experience the sporty looks and athletic feel with the local variant.
