Getting there

Petra is well connected to major cities, through roadways. Regular tours are arranged between the cities of Petra and Eilat. Petra can be approached on foot through the legendary 1.2 kilometer-long Siq, or gorge, which was formed by a natural geological fault split apart by tectonic forces.

Main attractions

Petra has a whole lot of historical attractions, including the Al Khazneh or the treasury, the urn of which is rumored to contain the treasures of a Pharaoh, the outer Siq or the Street of Facades, which is a large canyon, lined with the facades of various tombs, and the Monastery or the Ad Deir, which is believed to be the largest carved monument in Petra. Petra also boasts of a 7000-seat theater called the Roman Theater, which was constructed by the Nabataeans, but later revamped by the Romans. On the side of the valley opposite the Roman Theater and a short walk up the hill, are the Royal Tombs. These tombs are grand in style compared to the others in the area, hence the name ‘Royal tombs’, but their history still remains elusive and a subject of great ambiguity.

The Petra by Night event is organized every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday so that the tourists can get familiar with the local culture, traditions, cuisines and much more dancing on the tunes of Bedouin music. It is a great way to relax while totally immersing oneself in the mystical landscape.

The High Place of Sacrifice, situated on top of the mountain, served as a site for sacrifices in the past. It is marked with elaborate rock alters, which were used for sacrifices. The scenery from the top is breathtaking and makes for an unforgettable imagery. The Mountain of Aaron is the highest peak in the area. At the top of the mountain lays a church and the tomb of Aaron, the brother of Moses. Please Visit Site : http://www.jitours.com
