Importance of GMAT in aiding higher studies
GMAT or Graduate Management Admission Test is required for the majority of MBA programs in and outside India and MS courses outside India. It is conducted by Graduate Management Admission Council or GMAC. There is no such eligibility criteria set by them for appearing in the exam. However, one must need to meet the criteria set by the university or colleges he/she seeks admission into. Candidates must possess a graduate degree in any discipline from a recognized university. Due to its standardized format and being reliable predictor of students’ academic performance, most business schools require this exam and place a major emphasis on it in the admission process.
Syllabus and pattern
The GMAT is a three and a half hours test with a maximum score of 800 points. The syllabus is divided into four parts namely analytical reasoning, quantitative aptitude section, verbal reasoning part and the integrated reasoning section. The questions are comprised of both objective and subjective questions. The analytical section includes argument and issue essay to check the writing style of the candidates. Integrated analysis involves table analysis, two part analysis, multi score reasoning, graphics interpretation etc. Problem solving skill and data sufficiency are checked in quantitative section and reading comprehension and sentence correction and other critical reasoning are checked in verbal reason section.
Process of registration
The candidate can sit for five times a year for this exam but a gap of at least 16 days is to be maintained. But they need to register for the exam first which needs to be done very carefully. The GMAT registration process involves the following steps:
- First the candidate needs to visit the GMAT official website and then to move to the Register page.
- He/she needs to create an account and fill up the basic personal information details such as name, address etc.
- Next, they need to fill up the profile details correctly like DOB and country of residence with his/her confirmation for getting contacted by GMAT and about the types of mailer information they are interested about GMAT or GMAT accepting institutes. - Then the candidate needs to verify the profile details and they can edit the section wherever they feel to change.
- Next, they need to select the test centre and exam schedule date as per their preference.
- Then the confirmation needs to be done and finally the registration will get completed after successful payment of the required amount via debit or credit cards via online mode.
