If you’ve already purchased your Netgear WiFi booster or range extender, here’s an easy to follow full tutorial on Netgear extender setup. The setup and installation process of your WiFi range extender will take less than 20 minutes – it’s that easy.

  1. Turn on the Netgear WiFi range extender.

  • During Netgear extender setup, your range extender should be plugged into a wall socket that is closer to the networking/WiFi router.

  • Push the power button on your extender and turn it on.

  • Wait for a small piece of time for the power LED on your range extender to become green.

  1. Connect the WiFi range extender to your existing networking router.

For the setup and installation process of your range extender if you’re following the instruction manual, then we’re going to use the Netgear Installation Assistant to configure your Netgear WiFi extender.

  • Connect your computer or laptop to the Netgear range extender using a wired or a WiFi connection.

  • If you want to connect your computer or laptop to the range extender using a wired Ethernet connection, then grab an Ethernet cable and connect your devices with each other physically and properly.

  • And if you want to connect your devices using a WiFi connection then in the list of available and active networks, you can see a default network name (SSID) "NETGEAR_EXT" (without quotes). Click on this available network name and then click on connect.

  • Now, open up any internet browser of your choice and in its address bar, type mywifiext

  • Tap the enter key on your keyboard and after that, click on the purple color button named as "NEW EXTENDER SETUP" (without quotes).

  • Now, to create a valid account – fill the displayed form carefully and click on Next. Note this down, there are 7 fields in the form. All of them are important.

  • The next screen will display the list of available networks that are active within your area. Select your preferred network and click on next.

  • The next page will ask you for the password. Type in the password of your existing WiFi network and click on Next.

  • You can also personalized/create a unique name and strong password for your Netgear WiFi booster/range extender.

  • Click on next.

  • Your range extender will take a couple of minutes to set up.

  • Now, you can connect other wired and wireless devices to your Netgear WiFi booster and enjoy the extended range in every part every area every corner of your house.

  • Once you have connected your devices to the range extender successfully, click on continue.

Optional:- You will receive a pop up asking "you’d like to add your NETGEAR page as a bookmark". Click cancel or OK.

  • Now, a registration page will display. Register your device and click on Finish to complete the setup and installation process of your Netgear WiFi range extender.

Important: If you want that your Netgear range extender gives you best performance as per your expectations, make sure that you update the Netgear extender firmware timely.

  1. For optimal performance, locate your Netgear WiFi range extender in the best place.

Your range extender is setup successfully using the local/default web address mywifiext or mywifiext.net. Now, you can unplug it and plug it to your preferred location. Remember, the location you choose must be within the range of your existing WiFi router. This will give you the most advantage/benefit.

In the above-given image - on the right-hand side you’ll notice that your Netgear range extender is located in a spot where it’s getting a good and continuous WiFi signals from your main networking router but closer to the WiFi dead spots and blind zones.

  • Wait for the power LED on your range extender to turn solid.

  • Check the light color of your router link LED as well. This will guide you if your range extender is getting good WiFi signals from your main wireless router or not. If the LED light on it is Amber that it means that the signal is OK - green means a good signal and red means poor signals.

  • Now, test your internet connection by connecting computer or laptop to the range extender and accessing mywifiext.net login page.

  • If you re accessing mywifiext.net setup and login page without any issue, then you aren't facing and connectivity issue.
