Disney Plus Streaming Service: Cost, Available Shows and Movies, and Release Date
Disney is set to release its streaming service named Disney Plus, where you will be able to stream almost everything related to Disney. It will be the only platform to stream blockbusters like Star Wars along with Pixar and Marvel movies. Avengers: Endgame will be available from December 11 onwards. Disney is tempting viewers with its new platform and a massive discount to lure them away from Netflix and Hulu.
Disney’s latest streaming service has many things to offer, from TV originals to blockbuster releases. However, the biggest surprise for everyone was the price for the service, only charging 7$ for a month. The price is a considerable discount from Netflix and is even half of the price of HBO Now. Disney has held back from releasing its movies on Netflix, so the rivalry is already heated. Disney has been allowing Netflix to stream its movies for the previous three years; however, that would not be the case from now on.
If you are a fan of Marvel movies or Star Wars or have kids, then you should consider opting the latest streaming services of Disney.
The Release Date
The latest streaming services will be launched on November 12 in the US.
The date is a smart choice considering several Disney movies are set to hit the theatres this holiday season. Frozen 2 releases on November 22 and the latest installment of Star Wars will hit the theatres on December 20.
Disney Plus is also set to release in:
- The western region of Europe over the span of six months from October this year to next year March.
- Eastern region of Europe over the span of a year starting as soon as October 2020.
- Latin American region over the span of three months starting as soon as October 2020.
- Asian Pacific region over the span of two years starting as soon as October this year.
The Charges
The services will cost you 7$ per month, or it could be 70$ for a year. In comparison, Netflix’s most famous plan costs 13$ monthly, which allows you to stream in two different screens in high definition.
Christine M. McCarthy Disney’s CEO hinted at a price going up in the future, calling it a starting price. Disney will also offer a bundled service of Hulu, ESPN Plus and Disney Plus with a 5$ discount if you have subscribed to all three platforms.
How to Stream?
Disney said that the streaming services would support phones, computers, tablets, streaming media boxes, and connected TVs too. They called out specific support for Roku and PS4.
The services will be available in 4K and HDR too, but Disney has not been clear about the specific details. How many screens can simultaneously stream or how many will be able to stream in HDR? Questions like them still remain unanswered.
Shows and Films Available
It will include stuff like:
- Pixar Movies, Star Wars, Marvel Movies, and Nat Geo too.
- The Simpsons 30 seasons.
- Movies such as the Sound of Music and Malcolm in the Middle.
- Latest releases like Captain Marvel and Frozen 2 will also be available.
- A Star Wars Prequel.
- Marvel series with Loki played by Tom Hiddlestone.
This step continues to heat the streaming competition in the US. Hopefully, Disney will live up to the expectations.
