Want to do business in Dubai? Keep these do's and dont's in mind
Dubai is a mesmerizing place and a boon for businessmen or entrepreneurs who want to work in a city, which understands your drive or passion. If you are planning to move here or live here or are coming for business purposes here that extend over six months, you need to know a lot of things about the UAE.
Dubai has a lot of tradition and history, and to start a successful business here, you need to know the right person, and also know how to present yourself.
Here are some dos and don’ts for living and working hassle free in Dubai.
Do’s
1. Dress appropriately and be polite with everyone
Dubai is quite modern, but it still believes in its Islamic roots. That means that you need to dress up modestly, while also looking stylish and smart.
It implies that men should wear a suit and tie when going for a business meeting. The regular office wear can be pants and shirts with or without a tie. For women, wearing a skirt with stockings, a blouse without a plunging neckline is preferred.
In their daily life, people moving to Dubai can wear anything, but make sure it is loose-fitting, and use a covering when going to malls and Mosques.
Keep a smile on your face and have positive energy. When you meet the business correspondent, make sure you greet them with respect. That means not shaking the hands of the opposite gender unless they offer. Also, make sure you use the right hand. Don’t start talking about business from the get-go, talk about their health and family first.
2. Get out and network
In Dubai, you don’t make contact with people and networks using emails or online transactions. You need to get out there and meet people through events or discuss businesses face to face.
3. Do your research
If you want to work in Dubai or any other Emirates of UAE, the first thing you need to do is research. Take help from a consultant or get on the field and research the market conditions there. It will help you set up a business successfully.
Don’ts
1. Don’t overspend
Living and working or setting up a business in Dubai is not cost-effective. So don’t spend money on things especially where you can save. Like instead of buying groceries from local markets instead of supermarkets. Also, rather than buying a car, you should go for a cheap car rental in Dubai on a monthly basis.
2. Don’t exaggerate about your achievements
Dubai has a lot of people who show-off about being the best and biggest of all in their field. If you plan to do this there, it is best not to start a business there.
Instead show them quality work with clean designs and so on.
3. Don’t use bad language or disrespect their religion
The people of Dubai are open-minded and love jokes and humor. But they don’t appreciate R-rated language and jokes on the expense of their culture and religion.
Keep these tips in mind and you will be successful and happy for sure.
