Remember Its Always The People That Make The Place

If you just found a new job opportunity abroad or have just decided to move abroad anyway you may feel a little bit bad because you will be leaving your loved ones behind in your home country. You are essentially saying bye to the place that you might have grown up, called home for most of your life, and when you arrive in the new country you have to adjust to the new society. If you are an EU national who is moving to the UK before or after Brexit, it is important that you stay up to date with the latest immigration rules. If you are from outside of the EU, make sure you are also up to date with the UK rules for 3rd nationals. In general, making the choice to move to the UK is great because there are millions of people who immigrate there and call it their home.

In general, when you arrive somewhere it will take some time to make new friends. Your first few weeks in a new place will fill you of excitement and you will want to explore it the best you can. Then you will get a bit used to it and maybe get a bit homesick. The best way to deal with this is to get comfortable in your new life and to meet some good people in the new place that you are in. I am talking from experience, it is most definitely the people that make the place. You can be in some of the best cities in the world but without the right people surrounding you, you may not have a very good time.

Meeting people can be easy in some cities but it can also be hard as well. It really depends on what there is to offer and also what kind of person you are. I have outlined some basic ideas that I use when living abroad to meet people.

Join a gym or sports club

Joining a sports club like a gym or an activity like cross-fit, for example, can introduce you to a lot of people from all walks of life in your new city. You can bond with them over the activity or meet them outside for food, drinks or to generally explore the city. Its a quick and effective way to grow your network so you have people to hang out within your new city.

The Meetup Phone Application

The Meet Up application is a great way to search for cool and interesting activities in your new city. It works by people posting events in the application and then others can join the event and turn up at the igt place at the right time. There can be meetups from anything like chess to hiking and from yoga to raving and cooking. The possibilities are really endless. The great thing is that the meetup app, is a smartphone app, so everyone can easily browse it in many cities all over the world. Through it, you can get to know other people who are interested in same things as you and that can be very beneficial for building friendships in the new country, as you will build them based on common interests and activities.

Socialise in your area

Going to your local pub in the UK or in London, for example, can be an interesting experience because you can be a lot of your local crowd. Pub culture is huge in the UK. They are places where people et together after work to chill out, have a drink and talk. Getting involved in this scene is definitely fun and can introduce you to a lot of people.

Integrate with your workmates

If you are going to move abroad, that is very exciting and I wish you the best of luck. If you will be moving to the UK that is also amazing and you will love your life in this awesome country. It is very important to be prepared for your move and to make sure wherever you go that you have all the right paperwork to accommodate your move safely, securely and legally. If you will be moving to the UK, then it is always good to seek the advice from some of the top immigration solicitors UK who can help you with your immigration status and advise you if you need to do anything before your arrival in the country.
