What is a seamless pipe? What are its functions?

Author: Duplexsteel & Engineering

Seamless pipe is formed by forcing the molten metal to create a long tube of continuous metal, then to be cut into suitable length, through a round dies with a plug in the center, usually, either 21 ft or 40 ft, even though there are other lengths. Unlike the roller and welded tube, a seamless tube is a more consistent inconsistency. Also, seamless pipe usually can withstand operating pressures and temperatures that are higher than Weld pipe so that it is often used in high-pressure systems. Fluids are generally less turbulent through Seamless Pipe than Welded Pipe.

In domestic and international markets for your choice, different kinds of sold steel pipes are available. And for many advantages and functions, both in the home and abroad are popular. In reality, seamless tubes are made of steel. Instead, surface treatment, including pounding, polishing, and so on, is provided to seamless steel tubes. In particular, the steel pipe needs to be carefully produced, and performance checks on standard international standards should be carried out before the sale. The oil can be transported with a seamless welded steel pipe. With the oil sector, most of the seamless pipe produced is consumed. Seamless sold steel pipe is used for the transport of steam, natural gas, waste, and air fluids. This type of pipe should be a perfect choice for applications where strength, corrosion resistance, and life span are required. It can be considered the best option for petroleum and coal, steam boilers, electric power plants, etc.

A tensile test is done from a Stainless steel pipe sample, the tensile test machine pulled the sample into a fracture, and then measured one or more of the mechanical characteristics, usually only tensile strength determination, yield strength, fractures elongation and area decrease. Tensile tests are the most necessary mechanical characteristics of metallic test procedures, and nearly all metal materials are tensile tests as long as mechanical components are required. Tensile testing is particularly the measure of mechanical properties for those whose shape is not convenient to test hardness.

It has a fantastic ability to stand under high pressure, which is one of its vast focus points. Despite being the most expensive steel tube in today's market, your optimism is well-deserved. The strength of the seamless steel tube under load is other points of interest.

Difference between Seamless and Welded Pipe:

  • There is no weld seam in seamless pipes. The surface of welded pipes has historically been seen as a soft, fragile, and corrosion-prone spot. The strength and reliability of the welded seam were, however, improvement in the production process for welded pipes. Still, seamless pipes prevent a weak seam from occurring. Generally, the working pressure of welded steel piping can be 20% lower than seamless pipes.
  • The operating pressure for seamless pipes is lower than for welded pipes of the same material and length because they have no seams made.
  • The walled pipes generally have a wider wall thickness than the seamless pipes. It's better than drawing a uniformly thin, flat pipe and a welded pipe by extrusion. The tube is smooth and dense. Even soldered pipes are far better than seamless pipes for surface finishing.
