Buying Your First Vape Kit? Avoid These 3 Critical Mistakes

Author: Jason Artman

The vaping industry has become increasingly fragmented over the years. That’s created a situation where, in some cities, buying your first vape kit from a local vape shop may not be the best idea. That’s because many vape shops have shifted their focus over the years and now cater exclusively to experienced vapers. Meanwhile, traditional retailers like gas stations and convenience stores only cater to beginning vapers – but the products that they sell aren’t necessarily the best. The truly great vape kits for beginners, meanwhile, tend to get lost in the shuffle. The best place to buy your first vape kit is often from a good online vape shop that has the capacity to stock everything. The last thing you should do, though, is simply buy the first kit you see – because buying the wrong vape kit can lead to a very unsatisfying experience.

These are the critical mistakes that can ruin your experience with your first vape kit. If you keep these things in mind, you’re certain to love the switch to vaping.

Buying the Most Expensive Kit

One of the first things you should know before buying your first vape kit is that price of a kit – and how appropriate that kit is for you – will often have very little to do with one another. Sometimes, the price of a vape kit is mainly a measure of the marketing muscle of the company that manufactures the kit. In addition, the most expensive vape kits often have higher prices because they have advanced features that expert vapers want.

One very important thing to remember about the more expensive vape kits is that most of them aren’t designed for the inhaling style you likely prefer. The vast majority of cigarette smokers draw the smoke into their mouths before inhaling it into their lungs. When you switch to vaping, you’ll likely want a kit designed for that same inhaling style. Most advanced vaping devices, however, are designed for a direct-to-lung inhaling style. You might grow to prefer that inhaling style later. For now, though, you should buy a vape kit designed for mouth-to-lung inhaling.

You can identify a mouth-to-lung vaping device by looking at its mouthpiece. If the mouthpiece is around the same diameter as a cigarette, it’s a mouth-to-lung device.

Buying Nothing but Tobacco or Menthol Vape Juice

Before you make the switch from smoking to vaping, it’s important for you to understand that vaping will never give you exactly the same experience as smoking a cigarette. The flavor of a cigarette is the flavor of tobacco smoke – but vape juice contains no tobacco and produces no smoke. Therefore, you won’t ever find a vape juice that tastes exactly like a tobacco cigarette.

The vape juice makers of the world have been very creative in their attempts to recreate the flavor of tobacco. Using a combination of flavors and aromas, it’s possible to develop a vape juice that captures some of the savory, nutty and sweet notes of tobacco – and you may eventually find a tobacco e-liquid that’s very enjoyable and satisfying. Your best bet, though, is to explore the wide world of non-tobacco flavors.

The companies that produce vape juice use the same food-grade flavors that companies in the candy, snack and soft drink industries use. It’s therefore possible to create a vape juice that tastes almost exactly like a popular treat. A vape juice can’t taste the same as a cigarette, but it is possible to make a vape juice that tastes almost exactly the same as a milkshake, a doughnut, a piece of candy or a slice of cake. A cigarette definitely can’t do any of those things. If you want to experience how incredibly pleasurable vaping can be, you should explore the full range of vape juice flavors right from the start.

Continuing to Smoke While You Vape

One of the biggest mistakes that you can make when you switch to vaping is planning to continue smoking after you get your first vape kit. If you plan to vape while still smoking – thinking that you’ll quit smoking on some day in the future when cigarettes become less addictive for you – that day will never come. It’s extremely unlikely that you’ll ever successfully complete the switch to vaping.

An important thing to realize about vaping is that, while vape juice delivers nicotine like a cigarette, nicotine isn’t the only component of tobacco smoke that’s addictive. Tobacco smoke, for example, is an MAO inhibitor. Nicotine itself is not. The fact that tobacco smoke modifies the reward pathways in the brain helps to reinforce the addictiveness of cigarettes. That’s one reason why it is so difficult to quit smoking.

The best way to switch to vaping is by planning to smoke your last cigarette before buying your vape kit. Remember that making the switch isn’t easy for everyone. You aren’t just addicted to nicotine; your body is also accustomed to receiving a constant supply of the thousands of other chemicals present in tobacco smoke. Nicotine just happens to be the most addictive component. You’ll still get the nicotine when you switch to vaping, but you won’t get most of the other compounds in tobacco smoke.

When you stop smoking and start vaping, it’ll probably be a few days before you feel completely normal. Switching from smoking to vaping isn’t always easy; it’s just a lot easier than some other ways of becoming smoke free.

What if you switch to vaping and find that your cigarette cravings are too powerful to ignore? If you still feel the constant urge to light up regardless of how often you use your vaping device, it’s a sign that something is very wrong. Have you noticed that every bottle of vape juice has a nicotine strength – such as 25 mg – printed on the label? The nicotine strength expresses the amount of nicotine in each ml of e-liquid. If you absolutely can’t control your cigarette cravings regardless of how often you vape, it’s a sign that the nicotine strength of your vape juice is probably too low.
