Dog Facts: Is Your Dog Deceiving You? Know Your Dog is Liar or Honest?
Is Your Dog Deceiving You?
Have you ever wondered if your dog is trying to deceive you to get his way? Dogs can’t speak but they are smart enough to pick up on human behavior and can easily re-enact it. Dogs usually give signals when there’s some emergency or they’re feeling threatened. However, some times, your dog might be doing it for fun or just to annoy you. So, let’s find out whether your Fido is actually honest or just deceiving you to get treats!
Getting All The Treats!
Dogs, especially my dog, Stella, would do anything to get that one extra bite of the treat. She’s a Labrador and is a perfect combination of being energetic and a couch potato. However, when it comes to eating and getting treats, she acts in a very clever way. Even when I have fed her only a few minutes ago, she’ll start signaling about getting more food, though I know she’s not hungry. I have observed her appetite and have been providing sufficient food but still, she will ask for more. I feel like it’s also because she knows that whatever happens, I won’t be able to deny anything with that adorable face!
So, yes, Stella does sometimes try to trick me and I happily obey because, well, I love her and there’s no harm in giving out a couple more treats. However, I have switched to healthy treats now so that it does not have any bad effects on her health. I also reward her with flea and tick treatments which is very effective for dogs.
Hooman, I’m Tired
As I’ve mentioned above, Stella could be a couch potato when her mood strikes. Usually, she’s ready for walks or playtime, but many times she’ll act extremely lazy and won’t even try to get up from her spot. I don’t force her to do stuff because currently, she’s an ideal weight so even if we don’t go for a walk, it won’t make that much of a difference.
Moreover, just like humans, even dogs need some me time. So, if you feel like your dog is acting lazy, well, just give him/her the benefit of doubt and try the next day.
More Rewards
This quality prevails in every living creature. Stella associates her efforts with rewards, and these days, she has started demanding more rewards. Before I used to give her two treats for playing fetch with me, but apparently, she now demands more as if her efforts have increased. I was very stern in that matter and don’t encourage the behavior as she needs to understand that she won’t get away with all the demands. In Rewards I give her Frontline plus for dogs. Frontline Plus is a potent and powerful flea and tick treatment for dogs.
Finding Loopholes in the Routine
Most of the time I take Stella for walks, but whenever my mom visits, Stella goes with her. The reason being, my mom is more generous when it comes to giving toys and treats to her. And Stella has established that her puppy eyes do work on my mom. So, this cute little monster always manages to get more than she deserves!
Listen To My Bark!
I am very fortunate in this matter as Stella only barks whenever she feels that it needs my attention. When there's some strange noise, a person, or an emergency, she will immediately start barking. I am very glad about this quality of hers that she doesn’t mess with me.
It is fine to play those innocent deceiving tricks to get your favorite food, but when it comes to a serious matter, your pet should know it’s not something to take lightly. Therefore, if your furry pal is playing these innocuous pranks on you, play along and entertain. Though, be vigilant when it comes to training him/her for emergency situations.
