The Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro
Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro
A laptop is a big investment, so it's always a good idea to do a little research before you spend $1100 on one. Right now, Ultrabooks are the most notable trend. Ultrabooks function almost as laptop/tablet combinations, mixing the computing capability of a laptop with the size and accessibility of a tablet. The Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro is the latest one, but it's one of the best ones we've seen in awhile, addressing all the issues we had with the first Lenovo Yoga and turning up the processing power and features.
Hardware
One of the biggest draws of the Yoga 2 Pro was its size, and it doesn't disappoint. It's significantly lighter and easier to handle than its predecessor. Despite its small size and weight, it's extremely durable -- a definite plus for any touchscreen laptop. Its design has another very nice feature: Fold the screen over backwards and you can transform it from a regular laptop into a tablet for easier browsing.
Display
This is one of the most impressive laptop displays we've ever seen, with extremely sharp resolution, vibrant colors, and great low-glare coating. The only issue with it is that some of the software needs to catch up to the high pixel count. Not all the apps were designed to be viewed with such high resolution, and as a result, sometimes it doesn't look great.
Performance
This is where the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro really stands out. You can pick this machine up for $1000-1200, depending on where you shop and what configurations you choose, but it has the performance speed of a much higher Ultrabook, booting into the start screen in less than 10 seconds. The battery life, unfortunately, is shorter than the first Lenovo Yoga -- that dazzling display uses quite a bit more power to run, and you'll only be able to get about seven and a half hours of video out of it. Nevertheless, it's still impressively fast, even if you may have to charge it a bit more often.
Is the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro Worth Buying?
Absolutely. It easily measures up when examined against its competition, and you're not going to find another convertible laptop this good at this price. It's durable, fast, and powerful. Our only real complaint is the comparatively low battery life, but if you don't plan on watching videos for a full day without charging it, the Yoga 2 Pro will do just fine.
