While it is very easy to spend a lot of money in Venice if you have it, you can also enjoy a budget trip if you plan carefully. After you've arrived on your transfer from Venice airport to Venice, keep these tips in mind to see the best attractions in the city while keeping your costs down!

Take a Look Around Rialto Market

At this wonderful food market you will find an amazing range of food on display. This is the place the locals go to shop, and it is worth the visit just to walk around and enjoy the sights and smells of traditional market. There are actually two markets here, the fish market and the fruit market. While you are here, make sure you also take a look at the beautiful Rialto Bridge - called Ponte di Rialto, in Italian. This used to be the main crossing of the Grand Canal right up until the 19th century and is a stunning architectural delight of the city.

Visit San Michele Cemetery

Many tourists don't find this cemetery, but it is certainly worth a look around. It is located on San Michele Island, where you could easily spend a few hours exploring. There is also a church on the island, which was designed by Mauro Codussi in the 15th century. The cemetery was built more recently in the 19th century, and Ezra Pound is buried here, along with some other famous names.

Walk Around Burano Island

While you will pass this on your Venice airport to Venice transfer, it's well worth heading back on a vaporetto to visit Burano Island. This is one of the least crowded islands, and it's a relief after visiting bustling Murano. Although there are no specific attractions here, there are some lovely colourful buildings to enjoy and it is a great place for a walk.

I Gesuiti

This Baroque church dates back to the early 18th century and it is free to enter. Make sure you do go inside, as you'll find some important sculptures and works of art, including by Titian. You can also see the Jesuit monastery next door.

Get Lost

Perhaps the best thing of all to do once you step off your Venice airport to Venice transfer and have settled into your accommodation is to simply get lost! This is the best free activity of all and it is the most enjoyable way to discover the delights of the city. Go for a walk without your map, explore the alleyways, thin streets, and canals, and follow anything that looks interesting. Head in the opposite direction to the other tourists and you are almost certain to make some interesting discoveries.

You don't have to spend a fortune when you visit the famous Water City. After arriving on your transfer from Venice airport to Venice, visit these wonderful attractions for free – and there are plenty more for you to discover as well.
