Wiped film evaporator is mainly designed to maintain challenging evaporation needs with materials like heat-sensitive, low thermal conductivity. Basically, this technique involves the separation of volatile compounds by introducing a mechanically stimulated thin film of the feed material on the heated surface. Wiped film evaporator is also called a thin-film evaporator
In Wiped Film Evaporator, the rotating wiper system distributes the raw product to the film on the middle surface of the hot water pipe. The wiping system tries to speed up the evaporation process by keeping the product film turbulent which will optimize the heat transfer and mass transfer.
The lower boiling point of the raw material evaporates from the product film in a short time; The housing of the product on the evaporator wall is very small. Vapors condense on an external condenser.
The condenser is located on the outside of the evaporator and is connected to the evaporator through a pipe. So the velocity of the vapors at high evaporation rates and low pressures will become very high. Due to the pressure drop created by the vapor moving towards the external condenser, the achieved vacuum in a Wiped Film Evaporator is limited to about 1 mbar.
