  • Electronic lawsuit file

The federal case files are available on the internet and you can check them electronically. The public access to court electronic records (PACER) service is used to allow access to cases on the internet. Anyone having an account is allowed to locate and search district, bankruptcy case, locate appellate, and information about docket via PACER.

  • PACER case locator is used for a case that is not sure to be filed by the specific federal court. To check if a particular part is involved federal lawsuit or no not, you can search nationwide. Every day, the database update at midnight.
  • If you know about the court, who filed the lawsuit, logged into the database of PACER and you can find the federal case documents.
  • The cases are filed in the clerk’s office, so you can also access it from there using terminals of public access.
  • Searching an electronic lawsuit file

An electronic lawsuit file could be searched using the case docket and party name.

  • Searching: press the search button after entering the 5 digit case code into the search box. The search could be done, by respondents or appellant name and by a caption.
  • Search by participant name: you can search a lawsuit by filling the last name of the participant. To get accurate and to the point results, enter the first and the middle name too. The search could also be done by an organization or company name.
