Introduction

There are numerous good reasons to make your PowerPoint slideshow into a video. According to Mark Roemer, a ppt turned into a video with narrations and animations can become a powerful presentation on several platforms. You can show it to your clients or upload them to YouTube or any other platform for streaming. Here’s how you do it:

1. Start recording
  • Open up a presentation you have created on PowerPoint that comes with Microsoft Office 365 or Office 2019.
  • Click on the tab "Slide Show".
  • Here you would come across the option of "Record Slide Show". Click on it and you would find two drop-down options that allow you to "Record from Current Slide" or "Record from Beginning".
2. Video Options
  • Once you start recording the slide show, a new window pops up with different options.
  • At the top left corner, you have options with a big red record button, a play button, and a stop button that lets you customize the recording.
  • On the bottom right corner, you have options to add your preview from your webcam or your voice from the microphone. This allows you to add narrations to the video as you move forward in the presentation.
  • At the bottom, you also get a pen, eraser, and highlighter tools with a color palette that lets you highlight things in the slideshow video. These are added as animations as you make the video.
  • At the top, there is also an option that allows you to show notes in your video.
3. Controlling the video
  • As you hit the record button the program starts recording the slides and your input.
  • You can turn on the microphone to add narrations and to go to the next slide, click on the arrowhead on either side of the pop-up window
  • If a map or Excel sheet comes up, you can use the highlighter or pen tool to shift your audience’s focus exactly where you want.
4. Finish the presentation
  • Hit the stop button at the top left corner after you are satisfied with your presentation and then close the pop-up window.
  • Now, when you open the slide, you can see the video of yourself in a small clipping and drag it around anywhere on the slide.
5. Export the video
  • Click on the "File" tab at the top left corner of the Office software you are using.
  • You are taken back to a new window where you find the option "Export" on the left panel. Click on it.
  • A few options come up, choose "Create Video".
  • On the right side, you get two options where you can choose the resolution of the video and options to use the slide show or use it along with your recorded narrations and timings. After you are done with those options, click on "Create Video".
  • A window pops up that lets you choose the location of the video and its format. When you are done with that, click on the Save button.
  • On the bottom right-hand corner, you would see the program rendering the video and the time you need to wait depends on your hardware.
  • That’s it, your video is recorded and ready for the e-mail, YouTube or Vimeo.

Conclusion

Mark Roemer believes that anyone with elementary skills can make a nice video out of their slideshow and that makes it more easily accessible for their audience.
