Films A Haulier Might Identify With
Delivery drivers are people! As much as some tend to look at them as mere service providers, the truth is, behind every uniform is a human being – who, like any other human being, has his or her likes and dislikes, hobbies and occupations.
For many of these drivers, one of these forms of occupying down time is likely to be enjoying a film or television show. And while here, as everywhere else, tastes are likely to vary, the truth is there are certain types of film or show that a haulier is statistically more likely to connect with than others. Whether it is because of the specificity of their job or the personality required to do delivery work, we would be willing to bet the genres below would strike a transport professional's fancy more than any others.
Road Trip Films
The obvious answer to the question 'what type of film would a haulier go for?' is 'road trip film.' After all, these are people used to cruising the motorway, visiting new places regularly and enjoying the freedom of riding solo behind the wheel of a vehicle – all sentiments echoed in works such as Easy Rider and others of its ilk. A haulier who watches one of these often freeform and carefree works of cinema is highly likely to find themselves identifying with the main characters and their journeys through the deserted highways of life.
Car Chase Films
Or, actually, films involving any type of vehicle - including a bus, like in 'Speed', or even the haunted trucks of 'Maximum Overdrive'. Once again, the reasons are obvious – to choose a career path revolving around vehicles, one must have at least a passing interest in them. As such, films where cars and other vehicles are prominently featured are likely to interest the average haulier, who can get lost in the gleam of the chrome and maybe imagine his company-branded truck is a high-performance sports car involved in a high-stakes race...
Alternatively, films that entail delivering something or getting something to a certain destination – 'The Italian Job', the 'Transporter' series, and so forth – are also likely to be a hit among truck drivers. (Once again, for reasons that should be apparent.) While a real truck driver’s life may not bear more than a passing resemblance to that of the characters in such films, they will certainly be able to relate.
That is not to say, of course, that every haulage professional will enjoy this type of film; but plop one in front of the telly on a rainy afternoon off, and you just might find this to be the case.
