Migrate MDaemon Inbox Emails to Exchange Server - A Case Study
In this blog, I will explain a simple procedure of how to migrate MDaemon Inbox Emails to Exchange Server. I faced a situation to move my MDaemon user account emails to Exchange Server account & it takes a lot of time for me to complete the migration.
There are many issues which I encountered during the migration. Here I am listing my problem & how I solved it using manual approach or an automation tool.
Scenario:
Hi,
Greetings, I am Vox from Edinburg working in an IT Consultancy organization from last seven years. Our companies are providing services in 70+ countries & covers almost whole globe. Because we have a vast network of our services, we need to establish a proper communication mechanism to connect with all colleagues, associates & clients.
There are no doubt emails are the best way to do this task. Our organization is using MDaemon mail server to create email account of all our company employees. As of now there are 1.7k user accounts. Traditionally, MDaemon mail server was everyone’s favorite choice but with the introduction of cloud computing, the concept of using Desktop-based Mail Servers is not feasible.
So, our company had decided to migrate all of our user accounts & their mailboxes to Exchange Server. Microsoft Exchange Server has many unique features that can help any business to grow more. It provides a centralized platform to manage Emails, Contacts, Calendars, Tasks, Notes, Journals etc.
I tried to do it by export MDaemon emails to PST file & then upload PST to Exchange Server using PowerShell scripts. But the whole process takes a lot of time & even I need to run a lot of scripts & commands in PowerShell.
I also connected with their support team member Martin & got this reply.
Can we know the process of how you migrated MDaemon Emails to Exchange Server to better analyze the issue? - Martin
Here is my Reply.
I actually use Outlook with Outlook Connector add-on to create PST files. This is what we do, but we find that the process is slow for the whole team to work. An alternative which I had tried to do this export locally on each of the computers. So, it is not necessary to download the email before exporting it. I hope to be clear about it.

When migrating from other mail servers, you may want to copy all mailboxes and messages from an account on the old server to an account already created on the new server. Had you tried to do it by copy-paste your mailbox directory from MDaemon Mail Server to Exchange Server.

Thanks for the advice, I can try to create a test environment. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the copy/paste method is valid only if I was using on-Premise Exchange Server as output file location? IDK, if it works for the cloud environment or not. If so, can I install the migration tool, but use it to export / import between MDaemon and Exchange?
So, I urgently need your help to migrate MDaemon Inbox Emails to Exchange Server account as soon as possible. The best scenario for me is that if we got any direct solution available that will migrate all our users’ data from MDaemon Mail Server to Exchange Server
Martin:
Sorry to share with you this information, but manually you cannot migrate MDaemon Inbox emails to Live Exchange Server. You may need an automation tool, that will help you to directly migrate MDaemon emails to Exchange Online account.
One such application, which we have already tried & tested with lots of our client is RecoveryTools MDaemon Migrator. The application includes direct option to move emails from any specific folder to Exchange Server account.
As soon as you load your MDaemon mailbox files, the software will list all the folders in its panel. From here you can choose only Inbox folder, to migrate only MDaemon Inbox emails to Exchange Server account.
This toolkit is designed to ease the whole migration process. Honestly, if you decided to do the migration manually, you need a lot of technical knowledge like PowerShell scripts, how to connect Outlook Connector etc.
But, to use this application, you need nothing. Just download the software, activate it, load MDaemon mailboxes, choose Inbox folder, setup Exchange Server options & then start the migration.
The utility will offer users many amazing advantages like:
- You can migrate mailboxes for single user or for multiple users.
- It will allow you to migrate emails only from any specific folder like Inbox.
- You can also exclude any folder directly through its panel.
- It has many advanced filters settings that can be applied to migrate only required emails.
- The toolkit will preserve the on-disk System Folder Hierarchy of mailboxes. You can also set mailbox folder language accordingly.
- You only need to enter the account login credentials of your Exchange Server account i.e., Username, Password, & Server Name.
- This toolkit can only run-on Microsoft Windows OS. So, keep in mind that you have a Windows machine to perform the migration.
I hope you will get solution to all your problem. Please check this utility & feel free to share your results with us.
Vox Final Comment:
Thank You again Martin for the recommendation of this wonderful tool. After your suggestion, I download its trial edition to check its working. Thankfully, it successfully migrated all my data from MDaemon Inbox to Exchange Server account without requiring Outlook connector.
