Wine is an alcoholic drink made from fermented grapes or other fruits. This practice of fermentation dates back to centuries and thus makes it the oldest beverage of the world.

Being considered the most important beverage of all times, everything about wine has a tradition and format to it. Wine is drunk from special glassware only. Usage of any other vessel is strictly avoided as it destroys the flavor and perception of the drink.

What are bar glasses or wine glasses?

A wine glass or bar glass is a special type of glass used to drink wine. It is essentially a narrow bowl attached to a stem and foot. The traditionally accepted way of drinking from a wineglass is by holding it by the stem. They are made mostly from lead crystal and glass. Stainless steel is also a preferred material. There are different types of wine glasses for each wine style as the glass shape heavily influences the presentation of the drink.

Different types of bar glasses :

The shape of the glass is widely believed to be contributing to the flavor and aroma of the wine while consuming it. The mostly accepted fact is that the shape of the glass directs the drink to the best tasting area of the tongue and thus helps in tasting it better.

The most common wine glasses are red and white wine glasses and champagne flutes.

Red wine glass: They are characterized by rounder wider bowl which helps air to interact with the wine. It is considered that air can bring out the best of flavor and aroma in red wines. Other styles of red wine glasses include much broader bowls to enhance taste of delicate red wines.

White wine glass: These have enormous variations in size and shape. From being delicately tapered to the wider and shallow glasses, they enhance taste of different white wine styles. Unlike red wines, white wine should not be allowed for much of air interaction as it loses the crisp flavor. So most white wine glasses have smaller mouth to provide a clean taste.

Champagne flutes: It is a tall, narrow bowl with long stem. This shape is ideal to keep the sparkling wine bubbly during consumption. The narrow design also enhances the visual appeal of the bubbles travelling inside the glass.

A wine tumbler which does not have a stem attached to it is also an increasingly popular type of wine glass.

Bar glasses portray excellent craftsmanship too. They are available with etchings and designs. Rather than being simple glassware, these dignify the holder and each sip of the alcohol will be fascinating. It is always advised to choose wine glasses based on capacity, material and design. Because an elegant, comfortable and appealing design makes the experience of wine more pleasant and delightful.
