9 Simple Steps to Make a DIY Tassel with Ribbons and Trims

Author: James Brandon

People love making tassels because they are able to use ribbons and bits of trims leftover from other DIY projects. This is also one of the perfect reasons to raid your ribbon stash. And tassels are so simple to make that can be made effortlessly.

You can wear your tassel on your purse or hang it from a doorknob and you can also tie it onto a keychain. It is ideal to find a wholesale wedding and craft product supplier for purchasing fabrics, bulk ribbons from the sale, chair covers, table skirts, silk flower petals, and many others. Below, I’m going to share a step-by-step guide to make a tassel.

Materials That You Will Need:

  • Scraps of trim and ribbon

  • Seed beads

  • Sewing needle

  • Thread to match beads

  • Scissors

How to Make:

Step 1:

First, pull out all your old ribbons and trims out, and then keep your leftovers in a big glass jar. You should look for pieces that are at least 14-inches long. If you don’t have sufficient leftovers then you can add thin ribbon, pieces of embroidery floss, and yarn.

Step 2:

Now, start to lay your all trims together. You can take the opportunity at this time for organizing the trims a little. That way, your craft will not have the same color near each other. You can also spread-out ribbon types so all the organza ribbons will not clump together.

Step 3:

In this step, fold the cluster of trims in half. And then pull out one ribbon to be the tie at the top of the tassel. You can slide it over the fold and twitch the ends of the ribbon up about the trims and tie in a knot.

Step 4:

After that, twitch a tinny ribbon from the tassel and draw it about the top of the tassel, about one inch from the top. Let the trimmings hang as part of the tassel.

Step 5:

Now, trim the ends of the tassel and you can make them all exactly the same length if you want to keep all trims in the same length. You can also cut yours a little more randomly so the ends would be fringier.

Step 6:

After making your DIY tassel, embellish it a little. For doing this, feed the seed beads onto a needle and thread. You need to make a length of seed beads about 6-inches long.

Step 7:

Slide the needle over the top of the tassel then set the needle apart, leaving it involved. You need to wrap the bead strand around the top of the tassel three times.

Step 8:

Now, begin to sew back and forth between the bead strands for securing them to the tassel and then knot the end and trim.

Step 9:

At last, tie the top sash of the tassel into a loop for hanging on a doorknob. You can also tie it onto a key ring for making an easy DIY tassel key chain.

By following the above-mentioned instruction, you can make a pretty and colorful tassel. You can find an online craft store for buying tulle fabric, deco mesh, grosgrain ribbon, satin tablecloth, spandex chair cover, silk flower petals, and many others at the finest prices.
