Subaru Plans Bold New Global Sales Strategy
Although you may be familiar with the vehicle range at your Subaru Dealer. Perth consumers may be unaware of the limitations of the brand globally. The Australian marketplace is filled with popular Subaru options, but around the world sales are not as responsive. This has led Fuji Heavy Industries, Subaru's parent company to develop a bold new strategy to boost global sales and production.
The new strategy which has been named "Prominence 2020" has been recently revealed and details the company's plans to increase global production by up to twenty five percent by the year 2020. This strategy will create the North American market as a top priority and will allow the company to showcase their SUV models. The increased production will allow for new and revised Subaru models to be continually rolled out in production facilities outside of Japan.
Subaru recognise that in the global automotive market, they are a relatively small player. Although there is generally a wide range of vehicles on display at your local Subaru dealer, Perth consumers may not appreciate that elsewhere in the world, the brand is not widely recognised. However, the company aims to retain their small status but develop a reputation for high quality with distinct strengths. This should enhance the brand and allow the company to build a "strong business structure".
The plan targets increasing global sales to up to 1.1 million units each year. This represents a boost above the current 825,000 units sold worldwide for the financial year in Japan up to March 2014. The non Japanese production of Subaru models is currently restricted to the United States, but the company plans will allow production capacity outside of Japan to increase to 1.07 million units per year.
Subaru has made great sales progress within the United States market over the last few years. The brand is the only automotive company to increase sales year on year for the last six years. The new plan continues the focus on the American market, while retaining priority on the home market in Japan, which supplies the Australian market.
The company are maintaining focus on the SUV segment with plans to launch new vehicle ranges continually throughout the plan duration. It is likely that one of the first vehicles to be launched will be a seven seater model SUV which can replace the discontinued Tribeca. It is anticipated that the family sized model will debut after 2016 and be built in both Japan and the United States.
Even with the expansion plans, it is likely that Subaru will retain emphasis on safety and build quality, to strengthen their brand and stand out from the pack in their price range. The company has set their sights on becoming the top brand for safety of both vehicle passengers and road pedestrians. The company is also keen to further explore eco friendly options with plans for electric vehicles and hybrid developments. This speculation was supported with the preview at the Geneva motor show of the Viziv 2 concept, which was powered with a 1.6 litre diesel hybrid engine.
