Spelling Tic-Tac Toe 3rd Grade

Today's word list is about words that are commonly misspelled.

They are also the words for this week's Spelling Tic Tac Toe game.

The first player to make a five-in-a-row grid of correct spellings wins!

Are You a Grizzly?

This week I have another new idea, so sit back and enjoy! This week's event is going to be a spelling bee with an ordinary school twist. Since it is on a square grid, we will be playing Tic Tac Toe as a spelling game.

First, you draw a grid on a piece of paper, with the top left corner as (1, 1) and the bottom right corner as (5, 5). You will need to use this for reference whenever you move horizontally or vertically.

Second, each player will need to create their own grid and remember its location for later. Each player also needs to write down eight vocabulary words: one in each square of their grid. The only rules are that they must fit into an 8x8 table and that they must be written along the diagonal line of the grid so that they can be used as Xs and O's during the game. After all, players have completed this step, it is time to duke it out!

Each player takes their turn in order. In a turn, the player uses one of their words as an X or O.

If you are playing this game, I hope that you are using the correct vocabulary words for your grade level! You can find these by researching Common Core Standards for your grade level and subject area. For example, third graders should be learning about Earth's layers. If they want to play this game next time they have class, it would make sense if they wrote ROCKS, GEOLOGY, etc. However, remember that spelling counts!
