What to know about Traditional Moroccan Attire?

Moroccan Caftans are designed for both men and women and are the traditional attire of this country.

The people of Morocco are considered to be a proud race. They are known for their varied, diverse cultural heritage that gave birth to such an amazing ethnic variation in their society. A part of such cultural heritage is their traditional attire, namely, Moroccan Caftans. This wonderful country offers different types of traditional apparels that are still worn by people in today’s modern, fashion-conscious age. This is the kind of appeal that the caftans have managed to maintain not only among the Moroccan population, but also across the globe.

Moroccan clothes types

Basically, they are of two main types, which are mentioned below.

Men’s clothes

The first is clothes created for the men folk. These are considered to be a compulsory wear for all special occasions celebrated here. It includes the Aids, wedding parties, circumcision parties, etc. There are a huge variety of clothes to be worn for such parties. It includes the ‘tarbush’ or ‘terbouch’, a red-felt hat that is of a truncated cone shape. Also is present a hooded outer robe that is loosely fitting with full sleeves. Men also love to wear leather sleepers referred to as ‘belgha baboosh’. Sahrawi traditional men’s clothes called ‘derraa comprises of loose, long blue cotton shirt.

Women’s clothes

There are women’s clothes that are designed to enhance their beauty, grace and elegance. The present market is filled with a variety of women’s clothes. It includes the Moroccan Kaftan dress that is a long garment having wide loose sleeves. They are fastened in its front part having small button stitched neatly in rows. Usually, they are created from Andalusian origin, silk braid.

Caftan products

The kaftan or caftan as it is commonly known as is considered to be among Moroccan’s most famous apparels created for women. Once it was designed for and worn by men. However, with time, several changes have been introduced to make this dress more practical and modern.

Then, there is the ‘takchita’ comprising of the ‘D’fina’ where there are plenty of colours. The other is the ‘T’htya’ where only a single colour is present. Also is present the djellaba that has witnessed numerous modern touches. Going through Moroccan Tunics will allow shoppers to come across a variety of traditional apparels that are created by designers.

Besides the above, there are several other amazing Moroccan clothes like the ‘tabizart’, ‘ahayk’, ‘laktib’, ‘tatrft’ and ‘miahfa’. They are commonly worn by Saharan women. This apparel is designed to cover the entire body leaving open the hands and face part.

Embroidery

When Moroccan traditional apparel decoration is concerned, emphasis is laid on using embroidery. There are used different lively colours and types of silk in women’s clothes. For men, colours used are stated to express their authority and courage on wearing them.

Hence, it can be safely stated that the Moroccan people, both men and women give due importance to traditional attire. Also are popular Moroccan poufs and shoes. It reflects their true identity, something that is quite inherent to their very existence.
