Why Sleeping is Very Important

Having a very good sleep is important for your both body and mental health. A lack of sleep at night will make your next day crankier. Sleep is an important function that allows your body and mind to recharge and helps you to stay refreshed when you are awake. Without getting proper sleep, brains cannot function properly.

Different Stages of Sleep:

When you fell asleep, your body follows different stages of sleep. They are as follows,

Stage 1 Non-Rapid Eye Movement Sleep:

Stage 1 NREM is the first stage of sleep, which marks the transition between wakefulness and sleep. It consists of light sleep and your muscles are getting relaxed also your heart rate, breathing, and eye movements are beginning to slow down. This can last for around five to ten minutes. During this time, your brain is fairly active and produces high amplitude theta waves.

Stage 2 Non-Rapid Eye Movement Sleep:

The second NREM sleep stage is characterized by your deeper sleep as your breathing and heart rates continue to slow down. This can last long for 20 minutes per cycle. During this stage of sleep, you become less aware of your surroundings. Also, your body temperature drops, and eye movements are stopped. In this stage, your brain begins to produce rhythmic brain activity which is commonly called sleep spindles.

Stage 3 Non-Rapid Eye Movement Sleep:

In this stage of sleep, deep slow brain waves are beginning to emerge known as delta waves. This stage of sleep is also called as delta sleep stage. During this period of sleep, your muscles are completely relaxed, blood pressure drops and breathing becomes slow. Getting enough sleep at this stage will allow you to feel very refreshed for the next day. At this stage, your body starts doing its physical repairs.

Rapid Eye Movement Sleep:

At this REM sleep, your voluntary muscles become immobilized. During this stage, your eyes will move back and forth quickly under your eyelids. Breathing rate, heart rate, and blood pressures are beginning to increase but your arms and legs will become paralyzed. This is intended to prevent you from acting out your dreams. This sleep begins after 90 minutes of falling asleep.

Ways to Get Better Sleep:

Physical activities can help in improving sleep. A moderate exercise will boost the amount of nourishing slow deep sleep waves. If you are having trouble sleeping, try to avoid working out two hours before bedtime.

Always use sleep aids supplements, which contain more magnesium substances. Magnesium helps in controlling fatigue and promotes better sleep.

Remember to keep your body cool when you are going to sleep. Keep your room as cool as possible and wear light cotton fabrics to sleep.
