Cars with factory defects, what should you do?
Author: Lena Joseph
In 2011, automakers called for review in our country to eighty of its models, according to the National Consumer Institute because they had detected a manufacturing defect. All manufacturers act similarly. If the fault is not serious, a warning to your internal network is performed, and go to meet on the time when the car passes a routine.
When failure can damage the functionality of the vehicle, an alert is released and users are notified directly, to pass by your dealer. If the failure has safety consequences, apart from direct communication and urgent appointment, we resort to a mass media campaign (that has never happened in Spain).
These are the ten keys calls to review:
- Contact: Contact your dealer or specialist. There you will be told when and where you should go to proceed with the repair.
- Warranty: Remember that it is not necessary that your car is within the legal warranty period.
- Resale: No matter what your vehicle is second hand. Campaigns include all affected vehicles, regardless of who is the owner.
- Price: These reviews are always free.
- Term: The brand typically establish a reasonable period of time (although sometimes they are undefined) to attend the workshop. Find the contact with the brand. Avoid that is too short (and if you pass, collect). If that happens, it would be a fraud and you could claim, because these calls for review should be non-profit.
- Priority: When you make the appointment with the workshop, they usually give priority (depending on the severity of the fault). Sometimes they make available to affected customers exclusive apartments is available.
- Replacement Car: Not required depends, above all, the downtime and brand.
- Report: You can and should ask for a report in which the operations in your vehicle detailing.
- Warranty: They have the same warranty as any repair carried out in a workshop: 3 months for labor and 2 years for new parts.
