They are often at the forefront when it comes to the advocacy of disability rights. But the big responsibilities associated with caregiving can create mental and physical exertion that can sometimes affecttheir health. Carers also need some time off to focus on themselves and revitalize their energy. NDIS Respite Care Support takes over the caring duties of the NDIS participants for a few days so that their carers can take a short break.

Respite Care Support is an opportunity for the NDIS participants to try new things inlife, develop helpful skills and socialise with new people. All their personal care needs, the activities that they chose to engage in as well the food and accommodation will be taken care of by the NDIS funds. The participants can make use of this support up to 28 days a year which they can break into chunks of 14 days at a time or one weekend per month according to their convenience. Like any other NDIS support, you have to provide evidence that Respite Care is a ‘reasonable and necessary support’ that you need. Making use of this support for reasons unrelated to your disability like using it as an alternative stay so that you can complete your home modification is not condoned by the NDIS. If you don’t want to spend time outside your home, the NDIS also provide Respite support in the form of in-home care and support that creates a respite effect for your carers.

The NDIS Respite Care Support can be accessed after talking to your Support Coordinator, LAC, Early Childhood Partner or planner who will give you all the necessary information.
