Dinesh Karthik Proves Just Why He Is An Ultimate Finisher Yet Again
The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman has transformed into a finisher and has been amongst the runs of late. His exploits and form in the IPL have earned him a place on the Indian side once again where he is performing to his potential.
Dinesh Karthik has been there in the International foray for a while and has been fighting hard for a regular place in the playing 11. If only MSD wasn't such a star, maybe Dinesh Karthik would have been the wicketkeeper for the Indian team.
Karthik had always been seen as a handy batsman who was not so consistent (hereby not cementing his place in the team). Of late, Dinesh Karthik has been giving match-winning performances and has aged like fine wine. He has upped his strike rate considerably and has transformed into a death overs finisher.
It all started a few years ago in a match against Bangladesh where DK finished off the match and took India over the line in the last over. India had to chase down 34 runs in two overs when DK came onto the crease. He hit Rubel Hossain for 22 and scored a last ball 6 when India wanted 5 runs on the last ball.
Fast forward to IPL 2022 where DK again showed how he has turned into a mighty fine finisher. There were many matches where DK came at the end of the inning and scored big and crucial runs for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has been stepping up when the team needs him lately and scoring big runs at the end of the innings.
In just 12 innings, coming late down the order, DK had a strike rate of 200, scoring 274 runs at an average of 68.50. If that's not stunning, then we don't know what is. He gave the death bowlers jitters and was a nightmare for them in the Indian Premier League.
In one of the matches in debate, the wicketkeeper-batsman scored a quickfire 30 off just 8 balls against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. It was an IPL to remember for the veteran as he hit 21 sixes and was one of the most dangerous and impactful players in the season.
The Indian veteran wicketkeeper-batsman did not stop there and was selected for the ongoing series against South Africa based on his fiery form. He showed again why he is a phenomenal finisher by scoring 30 runs off 21 balls on a testing wicket. His inning took India to 148, which was looking very difficult after wickets kept falling.
India struggled in the second T20, and DK's inning was outstanding considering the pitch and the conditions. The team has put a lot of faith in the veteran and aptly so.
We have all seen the wicketkeeper-batsman over the years and are no strangers to his potential. He is in the form of his life, and all Indians hope that this purple patch lasts for as long as it can. Since the inning against Bangladesh, DK looks like a completely different player, and we hope to see many more of his matches where he takes apart bowlers for fun just like he has been.
Being Indian fans, we hope DK continues his form and helps us win more matches.
