Enjoy the 7 Days Lemosho Route Climb with Professional Trekkers

Author: Amidah Joseph

If you plan to trek to the highest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro, one of the most challenging but amazing routes, is the Lemosho. This is one of the most picturesque ascent routes to Mount Kilimanjaro. It meanders through a tropical forest before reaching Shira's western ridge and joining the Shira route at the Shira plateau. You will hike through a real rainforest on the Lemosho trail, where you can view amazing wild animals and lovely flora.

While on the Lemosho route Kilimanjaro, you will come across blue monkeys, black and white Colubus monkeys, and several flower and bird species. We at Travel Solidarity Tours conduct regular tours to Mount Kilimanjaro through the Lemosho Route.

We offer a 7-day Lemosho Route Climb for all ages, and you will descend through the Mweka route from Barafu Camp, which has a high success rate. However, it is important to know that the Lemosho route's success rate is quite low compared to other trekking routes, so you need a good guide who can take you to the top. Below is our 7 day Lemosho Route Climb Itinerary:

Day 1-Lemosho Glades-Mt Mkubwa

You will get a pick-up service from the hotel to the starting location. After completing the requirements at the entrance gate, you will make a steady, scenic ascent through the rainforest that leads to the camp. This walk is lovely and serene. Do not forget to bring your rain gear, as it frequently rains in the region.

Day 2-Mt. Mkubwa

At 6:30 am, you will get a hot beverage. After breakfast at 7:30, you'll start your almost easy ascent of the plateau toward Shira 2Camp at 8:00. The trail will split into two trails, with the straight route taking 6 km (2 hours 30 min) to reach the camp. The alternate trail travels 8 km (4 hours) to Shira Cathedral for acclimatization before continuing to the camp.

Day 3-Shira 1 Camp

The 3rd day will be spent climbing across the Shira Plateau, which gives you amazing views of the valley. You will also get the first view of Kibo, Kilimanjaro's main peak, which is to the east. Climbing in the morning and descending by the evening is the best way to trek, especially at such a high altitude.

Day 4-Shira II Camp to Lava Tower

On the 4th day, you have half-reached the mount and can continue at a slow pace. On this route, you will see a dry landscape covered with scrubby bushes and the imposing wall of Kilimanjaro's western breach. By lunchtime, you will reach the Lave Tower, which is at 4600m.

Day 5-Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

On day 5, you will reach Barranco Wall, an 843 ft. steep rock climb and the most difficult climb that every trekker fears. However, you don't have to spend much time here since it's a 7-day route.

Day 6-Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

This is the most challenging day; you will reach the 4000 m to Kilimanjaro Base Camp (Barafu) in nearly 4700. You can take things slowly hereafter and enjoy the view.

Day 7-Reaching the Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and High Camp

By around midnight, you will begin slowly pushing toward the summit of Kilimanjaro. Once the evening light comes in, you will see the crater ahead of you. Walk with a break for 5–6 hours, and you will reach Stella Point at 5756m. Once you reach Stella Point, you will climb to Uhuru Peak, which is at 5875 m. After reaching, you can stop briefly and enjoy taking a picture as you have reached the final stage of the trek.
